BT charged early exit fee, despite promising not to due to their price increase

Options
As the title says.

Received an email from BT back in July, they were increasing their line rental by a pound a month. Email clearly stated that so long as I replied within 30 days of email, and gave 30 days notice, that even though I was within the minimum contract period I would be able to cancel without any early fees.

Cancelled contract over teephone, was assured by woman that I would not incur any charges.

Just got final bill.

Almost 200 pounds in early exit fees!

I have emailed and explained to them the above, and pointed out their error. But I'm now worried they are going to try to turn this back on me somehow, and take the money anyway.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Bunch of b%$^&s - BT.

Hate 'em.

    Hi,
You have posted this in the Energy(gas and electricity) forum. I suggest you will get a better response if you move it to the correct forum - phones and TV

personally I wouldn't bother ringing or contacting customer support with this issue, I would go straight to the CEO and email them,as these would resolve and hopefully sort the issue out a lot quicker, you should get a reply a lot sooner

as long as you have the letter of the hikes you have nothing to worry about, its your right to cancel if you notified them with 30 days of receiving the letter/email
