Okay sat here crying and shaking, DWP have decided that we don't qualify for Income Support because I am on Incapacity Benefit and so between us we get more than £130 per week!

Out of this we have to pay the mortgage, increased fuel bills, Council Tax, other bills oh and maybe buy some food as well

    That is disgusting!!

My Mum & step-dad get just under £100 a week. She can't work again due to a problem with her leg, and he is currently out of work trying to find a job. That £100 is a joint amount too!! Not each!

And the thing that amazes me, is that the government will take Tax off the benefit money too!!!
So all your working life you pay Tax and NI, then when you need it the pittance you are given is taxed too!!
Debt Free as of 17/01/2009 Turtle Power!!

    EF Challenger #3 £1543.72 / £5000
    MFW 2024 #100 £1300.00 / £10,000

    MFiT #40 Jan 2025 Target - £99,999.00
    Mortgage at 30/09/22 £113,694.11 | Mortgage at 24/01/23 £110,707.87
    Mortgage at 21/04/23 £107,701.01 | Mortgage at 20/07/23 £106,979.65
    Mortgage at 04/10/23 £106,253.77 | Mortgage at 10/01/24 £105,324.57
    Mortgage at 01/04/24 £104,424.73 | Mortgage at 01/10/24 £103,594.98

Oh I am sorry Dragon - I must have crossed posts. I am confused though; I thought Jobseekers allowance was firstly contribution based and then after a period of time income based. Has the Dr claimed it previously and used up his contribtion based entitlement?

Or is Income Support on top of the other benefits and not therefore payable?

Can you pop over onto the benefit boards for more info?

My blood boils at the amount I put in as I am sure if I ever had to claim I'd be in the same boat as the Dr!

Hi peb and Raph - Dr Dragon is still officially employed so getting SSP (paid through his company) and not job seekers - if he were on job seekers we still wouldn't get income support because I get such a huge amount of money!

They will not help with the mortgage until February next year - we still have to talk to the Council but we suspect nothing will help there either.

I want to lose weight but wasn't anticipating doing it by not being able to afford food

Thanks for the good wishes peb - I think the confusion arose because I said it might have been better if Dr Dragon had just left and claimed constructive dismissal, also we are not sure where things stand with his company.

All we do know is that we have to find the money for the mortgage and increased fuel bills etc and I am panicking. I suspect my pain levels are going to be raising as well as I can no longer afford prescription charges, so I am going to be of even less use to Dr Dragon, I am seriously thinking that he would be better off if I just killed myself - easy enough to do just eat some peanuts

Hey hey dragon, please don't talk like this.

No one would be better off - neither the Dr nor us - remember it is only money - not that important!

Have you looked into a payment holiday for the mortgage, going interest only - the usual stuff?

Any insurance payout for the Dr?

If you are on benefits can you get a free prescription? Checked to see if they are cheaper privately?

You seem to have a strong relationship - don't do the Dr a disservice.

and !!!!!! ring the GP if you are feeling this bad - are the painkillers the right strength?

    Sorry really am down :o

    Money is needed though!

Have you looked into a payment holiday for the mortgage, going interest only - the usual stuff?

Going to talk to the Nationwide tomorrow or Wednesday - we have only had the mortgage since last October

Any insurance payout for the Dr?

    Nope

Incapacity Benefit does not get you free prescriptions and neither does SSP so I still need to pay

You seem to have a strong relationship - don't do the Dr a disservice.

I know - just soooo down at the moment

and !!!!!! ring the GP if you are feeling this bad - are the painkillers the right strength?

Pain killers are the highest I can get (I have Chronic Pain), Dr Dragon is seeing the doc on Thursday (I will be going with him), I think the way all this is affecting me may be talked about

Please do see your Dr as you are feeling so bad and could you maybe get an appointment with the CAB to see what suggestions they have.xxxxx

Thanks beanielou - where do I pick one of these up from? can I get them from the docs as Dr Dragon and I are there tomorrow morning?

In other news I have lost weight (2.5 pounds and down below another stone barrier!), amazing how having no money for food can help weight loss!
