Car towed for parking by dropped kerb- please help

  • That diagram didn't work at all!! You'll just all have to take my word :-)
  • How do I get the photos?

I saw a photo when I went to get my car, it supported my view but it didn't show how long the full dropped kerb went on for, and therefore how much room the house owners had. But it still did support that I didn't block the drive. I think if I appealed I might try to also submit a photo showing how big the dropped part is?
  • Whoa there, there is always a point in appealing as you won't have to pay any more if you lose, and could get it all back if you win. The rules are that you should not be parked on the DROPPED bit, nothing to do with the slopey bit. Anyway, post over on pepipoo, include all paperwork received, all sides, any pics you have, google street view of the location and anything else you think is relevant. Don't appeal before they give you help, show what you would be sending so it can be tinkered with if necessary. Don't delay too long wou have a short window to appeal.

    Ha, no not really :)
but I am not exaggerating when I say there was LOADS of room to get in and out of the drive, I wouldn't have left my car there otherwise, I know not to park selfishly.

I don't think anybody doubts this but it's pretty irrelevant. As you have already admitted you were parked on there and as it's (I think) an absolute offence it wouldn't matter if it was an inch over or five feet.
  • Thanks!

I was told the sloping bit counts as part of the dropped bit.

It's just irritating when I know that I take care not to block people's drives!
  • Sorry I'm getting out of sync in trying to reply to people.

To tykesi: Yep I agree I now realise I was parked illegally (I didn't know this before), but because I was parked slightly on a dropped kerb, does that mean I automatically get towed? I have seen things elsewhere suggesting this is only a fining offence.

Council will tow it no matter how far over the dropped kerb you were. They dont nudge a car forward or back a bit, particularly that they still have to use a recovery truck that will cost the same regardless.

The argument of how much is mute, its like saying "I was only breaking the law a little bit.". Your OWN interpretation of how much or little you were blocking the drive can be debatable and biased. Imagine the owner of a dropped kerb being asked by the council "how much of the dropped kerb is blocked?"

It might sound harsh OP but we are looking at it as it stands, honestly and to the point. If your after sympathy the most your likely to get is...Sorry to hear about that OP.

I was under the impression that the slope is NOT part of the dropped kerb, but I urge the OP to go to the pepipoo website as advised as the real experts on council tickets are over there.
    Je Suis Cecil.
  • You are being a little overly harsh, and also missing my point.

As stated before, my main question was- if I am at all parked on the dropped kerb, is it an automatic towing? I have read elsewhere that this is a fining offence.

Which you answering with a yes, it is automatic.

(Also, if the owner was asked I very much doubt they would have said it was blocked at all.)

Anyway, someone helpful on Pepipoo is saying that the sloping part does not count as the dropped kerb so I will pursue that line of enquiry.
  • Thanks Manxred, that's what they said on Pepipoo.
