Know this won't be exactly what you're looking for but...

They get lots of properties across Lancashire marked as "Residential for improvement" so if you are having trouble finding something can't hurt to look and see what they have maybe?0 -

Do you mean properties that are on the market, or do you want to speculatively approach owners of property that is not on the market?
For properties on the market... just about all EAs and Auction houses advertise their properties on Rightmove and/or the other portals (whatever the condition of the property).
For properties that aren't on the market... there's a BBC article here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/homes/property/buying_rescueahouse1.shtml But if it were me, I wouldn't raise my hopes too much.0 -
Nothing beats getting in a car and driving around. Or, being MSE, getting on your cycle, and pedalling around. There is no short cut to getting one: if there were, investors more savvy than you would have snapped up anything worth having. What'd be left would definitely be worth avoiding, even if you couldn't see why.
Even if you get one, it's no quick-fix route to riches. Hard work, no guaranteed return, and only worth doing if you have spare capital. Auction properties are a distinct possibility but they aren't for the beginner.Seriously, if you don't really know what you are doing, then avoid ....0 -
Go outside and turn left. Take the 2nd right, past the church then right again. Check for abandoned property.0

I would have thought pretty much all the properties in Preston would qualify as a renovation project.0

How about
as a starter project. It's a very suitable project, in my opinion.0 -
a car or a bike is your friend for this"enough is a feast"...old Buddist proverb0

Also try the council - they may be aware of properties due to lack of council tax, neighbour complaints etc.0
