I'm confused, post 5 says automatic, where is that?
try ticking the let windows manage box (see screenshot above), if you can't get into that screen, it may be in the software for the card.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
I have found the tick box, had to find it through the software for the wireless card, just before your last post.
network is showing as automatic. Should this now be working OK?0 -
It suggests to me that windows is not managing the wireless, and some other software is?Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0

Thanks.
I have just temporarily changed the management to windows, to see if this make any difference. Could this be a reason for the dropping of the wireless connection, or do you think it is possible that we may have a faulty box?0 -
only time will tell, I doubt it is the router, lots of people have glitches, it is the nature of wireless, but windows seems to manage it better. If it continues, try scanning to see what else is out there, and what channels they use.
Also make sure the windows is auto and wpa encrypted, and these are set (the same as the pic )in advanced.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
Thanks very much for your help. The battery has just died on the laptop, so I can't pursue any further tonight. I will try the above settings tomorrow, and cross all of my fingers and toes that it all works OK.
Thanks again for your help and patience.

Are you always using the battery on the laptop??? Some laptops will reduce the power to PCMIA cards in order to lengthen battery life. My acer used to cut power to my Netgear card down to 80% when on battery meaning it was harder to maintain a connection as the DG834GT (the router sky use)has a really annoying habit of disconnecting at the first sign of the signal being weak.
Also found that using windows own connection manager was a LOT better than the netgear cards own software.0
