Hi
Just taken out sky's mid package having been on BT for 18 mths. Mostly BT connection to laptop was fine, but the sky one just won't stay up - lots of double entendres in this post. Keeps losing its connection. The only solution the technical team could come up with was our walls are too thick. This is a new house and that isn't a likely problem! However the signal is required to go through 1 double skin breeze wall.
Can anyone help? Is it likely that the wall is stopping the signal on a supposed 100m router?

Is windows managing the wireless, have you set it to autoconnect, are there other routers using same channel in the vicinity, you sure it is the wireless dropping, and not the sky BB connectionEver get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0

HI
thanks albert - yes windows is managing the wireless as far as I know as far as I can see there is no autoconnect. It gets connection and then loses it.Yes there are other sky routers in the area, but we can't change the channel. How would I know if it is the wireless dropping and not the sky connection? The ethernet works fine.0 -
your wireless icon will get a red cross through it, and then start to animate after it drops, if wireless.

sky
wireless to change channels
the connect if within range screen is under here (it should say automatic)Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
Hi
Albert thank you. Chnaged the channel in routelogin - do you work for sky? and it is the wireless as the icon gets a cross through it. We have put the router on the top of a bookcase and my son is playing runescape on his laptop at the mo as a test to see if we are still losing connection.
TEchnical at sky reckon it is because the signal can't get through, but the signal can be fine and then for no apparent reason it will drop to 24 mb and then close, meanwhile the ethernet is fine - could this be possible? or could we have a faulty router?0 -
don't work for sky, under the advanced screen, what settings do you have.
Re the channels, they overlap upto 5 channels away, so that is why the defaults are
1 or 6 or 11
so you need to choose a channel as far away from the neighbours as possible,Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
Is it just trial and error to find what channel our neighbour is on - not actually knowing who it is that has sky I can't ask them.0

you usually get a wireless scanner utility showing channels used with your wireless card, if not, you may be able to use netstumbler
http://www.netstumbler.com/downloads/
is the router on the same floor as your pc?Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
Hi, Mr Patch here, Mrs Patch now watching Corrie.
Can't get the wireless networks tab up in the box up as above, doesn't seem to mant to come up while connected or disabled. Any clues?
Do I need to install netstumbler on the PC with the wireless card?
and yes the router is on the same floor as the affected PC. Currently 7ft up in the air on top of shelves.0 -
double click on wireless icon, properties, wireless networks, advanced.
check that middle option (infrastruct) is selected, and tick box at bottom is emptyEver get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
The properties box will only come up with General and Advanced tabs??
Also Windows Wireless connection box is not showing any available wireless networks, notes imply that another programme is managing the connection.
Is that any help?0
