I took out a new plan in Feb this year and when I did I asked if 4G was going to mean that I could make calls and access the internet whilst at Villa Park, the answer was yes and so I stayed (against my better judgement). I have never been able to access the internet whilst at a game and cannot make calls until I am about 500m away from the ground. I have spoken to O2 today regarding this and was informed that 'in the small print, they do not guarantee service' although I have to continue to make payments for services that I do not receive. I cannot believe that this is just! I am currently in the process of switching to another provider but will need to settle the amount on my 'Refresh' account. I cannot stand to be with O2 any longer so I am taking the long view, it will cost me now (to pay the balance on my 'phone) but will save £8 pcm by switching to Virgin (even if they are no better, I will save and no give any more money to O2.

All mobile operators will have the same clause in their small print. The problems you are having at Villa Park are most likely due to many thousands of phones (in the pockets of all the people at the matches at Villa) all trying to connect to the few masts in the area causing massive congestion and lack of service. It happens anywhere there are huge crowds in small areas. Mobile services aren't set up to cope with that situation very well.0

Don't get why anyone would pay for a ticket to the football and then want to make calls/surf during the game? Why not just watch the match and switch the phone off?No free lunch, and no free laptop0
