Delayed Qantas flight

Hi,
I recently travel to NZ with Qantas, on my return journey to LHR my flight was delayed in Dubai due to engine trouble.
Total time delayed was 3hrs 20 mins.
Can I claim compensation?
I have got a bit confused searching the interenet on this, I have a feeling as I was landing in an EU country and not leaving on I may not be able to.
Any enlightenment or advice gratefully received.
Thanks!

you are correct. Non-EU airline delayed outside the EU = EU compensation does not apply
