Hi All
the latest TalkTalk price increases and and increasingly poor broadband connections have finally made me think about changing to Virgin media as their fibre is outside my house.
When I ring up and cancel TalkTalk do I still need to ask for a MAC (?) code ? if so how quickly are Talk Talk obliged to supply it and do they email, post or text it to you ?
I have had the same landline telephone number for over 30 years, do I keep this telephone number when changing over ?
I know Virgin Media supply a standard cancellation letter to send to TalkTalk to follow up the cancellation made over the telephone.
is there anything else I need to do ?

You don't need MACs now and anyway they would have never been needed if you are transferring to Virgin as they were never for transferring to cable, only ADSL/FTTC to ADSL/FTTC. I don't know if you can keep your number as you are transferring to a different system. You will have to ask if it is possible.
All you need to do is sign up to Virgin and phone TalkTalk to cancel their service.0 -
MAC no longer applies .
Contact your new ISP and they do all the work .
Charges apply if you are not out of contract and no you don't keep your old number automatically .0 -
If you have had the same number for 30 years presumably you ported the number from BT to Talk Talk at some point, you will need to tell VM you want to keep the number but don't be surprised if it doesn't happen and you end up with a number from VM's number range0
