Well I applied for two jobs over the weekend, and have a first (telephone) interview for one of them tomorrow. They only let me know today and it is 9am tomorrow.
Not a bigger salary (at least initially) and possibly about £2k less if they offered me the job, but the prospects and company look way better than the organisation I'm in now - plus I am jaded there now and it is getting embarrassing being there for so long (nearly 8 years!).
I haven't heard back about the other application but I was not optimistic as it was a long shot.
The good thing is, the second application for which I have an interview, would not have been as good had I not written the first one. The second one was done in a couple of hours, just tweaks to my cv and a new letter. I usually take two days on each one and realised I'm never going to get a new job if I keep on like that.0 -

Woo hoo!!! Fantastic news!!!
Well done, Alice. Wishing you luck. So good to read that you're in a pristine and active frame of mind. Great to hear that you're taking steps towards happiness!
Let us know how you get on tomorrow - fingers crossed.* * * Catriona's Credit Card Countdown * * * from -£16k to debt neutraldom - for my debt diary click here

Thanks Catriona. I haven't heard back yet. It seemed to go ok thanks.
It was a bit stressful as I'm not used to interviews but at least good experience. I am not too fussed about the job so will go for a second interview if they ask for me. The job might be ok or might be too similar to what I do already..so in a way it's good that I'm not too worried either way as at least it is good practice!0 -
Well I found out today I have a second interview on Monday, after first interview last week. The job is not sounding perfect (salary approx. same or slightly higher, with lower travel costs though) but it is a great company so I will go and find out more.
I have a job I'm more keen on, to apply for with a deadline of early Jan so it will be tricky to weigh up my options if I get offered this one. Will see how it goes, and at least I am getting things moving!
Also I got approved today for a £3k credit union loan at 13.7%. Not too bad and will be cheaper than staying with some of the credit cards. It is for consolidation only. I think I will find it easier with a combination of loans and credit cards. Also with credit unions the loan isn't recorded with any credit ref agencies so my credit rating should go up soon, hopefully improving my chance of getting a 0% balance transfer for some of the other cards. :T0 -
Thanks Verbatim. I keep trying to use a bit of positive thinking - I tend to feel I am less capable than I am so am trying to get out of my comfort zone.0

There is nothing wrong with asking them to match your current salary - you are worth that already. they can only say no, and I have usually found that they say yes!
it might help make the decision for you if you were offered the job.
good luck xx0 -

Thanks Catriona and Firesidemaid. I really feel ready for a change but hope I would not feel the same somewhere new - I suppose I would after a while lol.
I am a bit low today. Still stressed by the debts and my Barclaycard fees sent me overlimit. I am still struggling each month but I hope when I consolidate some of the debt it will start to get easier. As it is so tight it may not help or it will take ages.
I am not sure at mo where I want to work, live or anything.
Just get so down from struggling on my own.
A friend I was meant to meet for dinner cancelled tonight. He is a friend but has recently seemed to want to see me more and kiss me goodnight lol. But I'm not sure what I want/what I feel anyway. I feel let down by another male friend who basically dumped me just because I for once stuck up for myself. I'm not feeling as emotional because of the meds but the difficulties are still there - the meds just take the edge of it but I still have to do all the hard work to sort my life out.
Another thing annoying me is since my neighbours downstairs parked a motorbike outside - space reserved for bikes and possibly motorbikes but this is unclear - in front of the bedroom side of the block, there are now ten motorbikes from elsewhere. I have overheard two guys talking about where they live and today I asked them why they park there and why they can't park outside their own places. They said there is no sign to say they can't. Funny how I park my car somewhere neighbours don't like, and it gets keyed, but I have 10 ugly motorbikes permanently outside my block that have no right to be there, and I can't do anything.
The housing assoc is useless and I have now threatened them with the housing ombudsman. WE had a survey recently about their services and I gave them a very damning report - much deserved.
Yours very grumpily

Hello
I have not written for a while as I seem to have been busy with various things, including a bereavement in the family.
I am getting back on track now and realise the interest rates on some of my credit cards is causing major problems. So I have transferred £3k onto a credit union loan (interest rate still 13.9% but not as bad as before). I have closed the shopping accounts and one Capital One card (all paid off) but still have expensive debt in the form of Halifax cc with interest around £50pm and Barclaycard the same. So I have applied for a £1500 loan from a second credit union to transfer to the Halifax. I had just finished paying off that credit union loan so I don't mind taking out another one. I'd rather anything than credit cards at the moment - for longer term borrowing they are absolutely horrendous.
I have decided that the best way for me to get out of this mess which keeps recurring is to close the cards, as if I cut them up I can still spend online and delude myself that it is ok. My debts have gone back up because of having the shower put in (I realise it was fairly essential rather than a luxury) and £670 on my car this year for a few repairs. I am hoping I don't have to spend on it until MOT in a year's time - fingers crossed.
I am hoping this year's pay increment will take my salary to £32k or just above. It is a reasonable salary but the debts are making me poor! I need to push on and repay £400pm for at least several months (including the credit union loans which will be £121 and £135pm).
I have been saving £25pm in an ISA but I have just had to withdraw £50 to pay for my credit card. It is however nice to know there is a tiny bit of spare cash in an emergency. I was about to open my piggy bank which needs to be opened with a tin opener and then once it's open it is done with.
Think I am only just truly facing how serious the problem can become as I still am on a treadmill. But closing cc's and trying to remove them from my life will hopefully do it. I want to feel secure and to stop being made poorer because of my disorganised finances. Getting there slowly, very slowly but now need to reorganise how I do it and stop accepting CC deals that then turn into a nightmare.0
