  • Yes, A Nice Englishman, great advice but the problem we've always had is we have nowhere to comfortably install a 1.3 m dish!

If it goes on our roof terrace, WE can't fit on the roof terrace! We have no other outside space.

It could I suppose go on the upper roof, but then it is visible from the road and looks horrible.

Maybe I should stop caring about the environmental impact?

Thanks for your help, everyone; it appears from what I've read on here and elsewhere, that we mst have a 1.3-1.5 metre dish to receive any poopular Brit channels, and we do n ot have the room for this.

    It'll be Sky News then.

    Thanks for your advice.

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton
  • Just one more thing; could we pay to just receive National Gepgraphic?

A Dutchn expat here in the village does this with her Dutch system (80cm dish).

  • Yes unfortunately you would need a large dish. As Scottie says in Star Trek "[SIZE=-1]But I canna change the laws of physics, Captain!"

At least you avoided wasting money by buying a smaller dish and a Sky box thinking they would work.

If it works for her, it should work for you. Will it be in Dutch though?

You will need a Dutch Address to get a card to watch it, and a different satellite receiver.

OK thanks, I have a box that recxeives European chnnels and also Sky News, BBC World and CNN; it was 90 euros from Lidl in Spain for the whole set up. I also have an 80cm dish.

What do I need to get to watch Coronation Street and Homes Under the Hammer? And National Geographic??

OK, having read that, your dish is pointing at Astra 1, you cannot get ITV on Astra 1, you may just possibly get ITV / BBC by having your dish re-alligned to Astra 2, however, as I have said before, you may well need a larger dish to receive it.

It really is best to ask other ex pats in your locality about their set ups.

    Best of luck.;)

Her National Geographic is in English with Dutch subtitles.
