I work for a small internet company, and do all our buying with Dell. I have my own account manager who does us special deals. As far as I know they dont generally haggle with individuals.0

Nah, Depending on the sales assistant you may be able to haggle them over the phone. I've seen people do it
OP just needs to ring them up and see if they can offer you the spec you want and see if you can haggle them. you've got nothing to lose if they say no.
also is it not possible for an individual to buy from the small business section?
as that spec is about £50 cheaper in there.0 -
I successfully haggled with them, got about 7% off the price and few little bits thrown in (firewire, upgrade to cordless mouse etc).
Be nice, funny if you can, & build up a quick rapport with the salesperson. Good luck.
You can get cashback with Quidco, although I did not use them and don't know how successfully it tracks.0 -
Looked in small business and there are some real bargins!

Hi all
please help me too.
I am trying to buy a dell 1525 laptop. Done my research and have now called dell twice (abroad call centre, irish phone number never puts me through to ireland) and both said that the online was a good offer - the best 1 said she could do was to throw in microsoft works plus which is worth £20. But i can get £20 off in cash back.
What am i doing wrong? Any advice??? Am i expecting too much?
forgot to add, the laptop is £435 online and this includes upgrades of ram and 9 call battery. i get free upgrade of web cam and coloured laptop due to current promotion.0 -
I'd pay £20 NOT to have Works thrown inIt's taken me years of experience to get this cynical0

Why Dell?, if you shop around you can get far better specs for your money than that. 120Gb hard drive for example is soon going to fill up if you ask me, and that graphics card is poor. I got my folks an Intel Duel Core with better specs and graphics card for around the same price.
Here's one for example...
similar price but with better processor.., bigger harddrive, built in camara, bluetooth to name some.Titch0 -

hi reedi
it has all the above except the bluetooth. never heard of that laptop and it does look slightly ugly - looks are important to me. Will stick with dell as i know what i'm getting and the reviews are good for this laptop.0
