And when I'm spending £100+ I check the product title and the description, do you?
Your error. Good luck getting a resolution from the retailer, especially when you seem to have made a B2B transaction. But in another universe it may be better just to make a slight adjustment to resolve the issue.
Wow... disgruntled retailer? I completely disagree with you on this. You're assuming that this was a B2B transaction but you're wrong. I recently upgraded my computer at home to Windows 10 which inadvertently meant that my bluetooth stopped working as the driver wasn't compatible. Unfortunately both my current mouse and keyboard can only connect via bluetooth so I thought I'd treat myself to a new wireless mouse/keyboard set and forked out quite a bit of my own hard earned cash to upgrade to this back-lit keyboard set at over £100 because I tend to use my computer in my home office after work hours when its dark. The fact that I've been living in a hotel or that I have used my work email address to communicate with the reseller has no bearing on whether or not this is a business transaction. How many people who live out get deliveries made to their place of work so as not to miss them? I'd say this is quite a common scenario.
The point you've made about not checking the details is correct however I did read the entire page that was on display. My mistake was not clicking on the DETAILED SPEC tab which I'm guessing most wouldn't. I would argue that if a reseller is selling something that is not the standard and since most consumers in the UK would want to buy a UK keyboard, they would want to make it as transparent as possible to avoid these mistakes from happening, such as not hiding the detail in another tab that isn't initially displayed by default on the main page. The fact that this has obviously happened before since they are already selling other keyboards opened that have been returned for the same reason should have flagged the problem to someone in their office to change their listings. Otherwise, they shouldn't be surprised to be contacted by some disgruntled customers.0 -
Why do you not have your own personal email address ?0

You bought it as a B2B transaction whether you agree with this or not, it clearly asks if you want a VAT business VAT receipt which you selected. Why select it? Was the normal receipt not good enough for you? As well as being delivered to a business address it doesn't look good for you. Not being awkward just playing devils advocate here as it has all the hallmarks of a business purchase.
The description is also pretty easy to find so saying it isn't clear is wrong, however apart from that you will find you would have a hard time even getting a court to agree it was a personal purchase.0 -

Why do you not have your own personal email address ?
I had/have a personal email address (hotmail) but it gets so bogged down with spam that I only ever use my work one.
I've been using my company email as my main address for more than 10 years now and it works for me. I work in a hotel and am pretty much on-call even when not physically on duty which is why (a) I live in the hotel and (b) I'd rather have all of my emails in one than have to keep opening separate mailboxes for personal/work emails. Appreciate it's not common practice in most industries but in a lot of hotels the manager wants to be informed of any eventualities that happen 24/7 since we aren't just open 9-5...0 -

Well, my personal credit card provider which I used to place my order with disagrees and have already put the order in dispute. I would say that the fact that I have used my own personal credit card and not a business card to order these goods is proof in itself that this is not a business transaction regardless of the other points you have made. I don't think it's common for most people to buy stuff with their own cards for their work.
Also, call me tight and old fashioned but I still like to have hard copies of my receipts to help me reconcile my credit card statements at the end of the month and a lot of retailers these days tend to email you with their receipts meaning you have to print them out if you want a hard copy. I had hoped selecting this option would have resulted in an invoice being included with the package but it turns out this wasn't the case as all that happened was it was emailed to me. Regardless, there is nothing wrong with a consumer requesting an invoice. They have as much right as a business.
Appreciate you are playing devils advocate but claiming the description is pretty easy to find isn't good enough in my opinion although it's just that, an opinion and I'm sure some will agree and others will disagree.0 -
My laptop has a US keyboard .. you get used to it; even knowing to press ALT0163 for the £ sysmbol.
My OH's DD had a Saudi keyboard on it as her father had bought it in the country in which he worked tax free ended up half the normal price. It's looks like a normal QWERTY keyboard but with arabic letters also on the keys. Although I hardly ever used it I just couldn't get on with it and spent £10 replacing the keyboard a screwdriver and 10 minutes and the keyboard is now a proper UK Toshiba laptop keyboard.:footie:Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)

I'm sure lots of people have and do pay for things on their personal credit cards and claim it back from their employers as a business expense.0

I regularly purchase items for the company that I work for using my own personal credit card. I just have to make sure I get a VAT receipt and then whatever I have spent is added to my wages.0 -
Whether its a b2b transaction will ultimately be down to a court to decide as often different legislation has different interpretations of what a business is.
The CCRs have their own interpretation of what a consumer/trader are and it says the following:4. In these Regulations—
“consumer” means an individual acting for purposes which are wholly or mainly outside that individual’s trade, business, craft or profession;
“trader” means a person acting for purposes relating to that person’s trade, business, craft or profession, whether acting personally or through another person acting in the trader’s name or on the trader’s behalf. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0
