Iphone 5s-no bluetooth connectivity

I have had a new iphone 5s for a year now and the only bluetooth device i can connect to is a handsfree earpiece. In the bluetooth options, i can see other bluetooth devices such as my lappy but click> connect>doesnt work.

If i clear the bluetooth devices list and let it search for other bluetooth devices,all i see is the spinning wheel and nothing else.

This seems like a problem for a lot of iphgone users. How can this be?

    Is it not because some actions are required on laptop as well for connecting to it? You can't just connect to a new device you see in the list without this device accepting the connection.

    Bluetooth is locked down by Apple, you can't connect to other devices to transfer files for example. Apart from connecting to audio devices and the Apple Watch, that's about all you can do with BT on an iPhone.

    You can use a Bluetooth keyboard with iOS devices. I'd like to find a way to turn my laptop keyboard sometimes into a Bluetooth keyboard for my iPhone when typing long messages etc. I haven't found a way to configure this yet.

    Really? Wow..thats incredible. So the simplicity of using BT to send something to a friend is not there?
