Its done nothign but rain here all day and although ive had the water on briefly for a bath for littlie, nothing else has been on - he seems quite well aclimatise to the cold - hes been runnign round half naked all day! and im just in a top and trousers. Its nice so im hoping that the heating wont need to be on till november 1st.
Im hoping that once school starts the rain will hold off a bit because i can see me having to put CH on on the way out to pick up little one so that when he gets in he will be warm when i have to strip him off as i dont think our rain is goign to let up now
sammy - I'm planning on the rainy days to have my kids a change of dry clothes ready for when we get in the house and wrapping them both in a fleece for a while (maybe with a hot water bottle each) until they warm up - would that be an option for your little boy?You can't control everything in life....... your hair was put on your head to remind you of that

regards wheat/rice bags - I had one filled with cherry stones. Unfortunately, I loaned it to a friend who put it in the microwave for 10 minutes and burnt it  - despite me telling her that it only needed a minute or so. She said she thought it might stay hotter for longer  - some people don't have the brains they were born with.0

I've lost count of the number my partner has made his way through by doing that. I'm amazed he hasn't learned yet!!0 -

I think I suggested (not sure if it was on this thread or not) someone use cheap duvets for a door curtain but I don't really see that there would be a problem using them for windows as well; I have a cheapy 4.5 tog poly filled one which would be fine at a window. Not really that different to the 'bumph' that expensive curtains have between fabric and lining? I would probably stitch them to the top of the curtain just below the tape and might just stitch them to the bottom of the curtain, or near the bottom if needed to help them hang properly.
I've cut up spare poly filled duvets of all togs and made - amongst other things - a body pillow and several cushions, and padded a wooden headboard; I stitched up the cut ends after I'd machine washed them and they were fine.... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

I have plenty of soft warm fleecy blankets, a few fleecy jackets and even a nice long fleecy dressing-gown. And very thick fleecy socks bought in Primark at £2 per two pairs - fluorescent green and mauve colours but who cares.
Last winter I managed to cut down on heating by wrapping up well. Also, although I have an electric kettle I keep also an old, small whistle kettle with water in ON top of the heater so that the water warms up quite well and then when I want to boil a cuppa it takes next to nothing.
When I cook I keep all doors wide open so that the heat from the kitchen spreads around a little, helping to keep the place warm.Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0 -
We go camping so we all have sleeping bags. If it gets really cold why not have them under the duvets? I've also been knitting squares for an extra blanket in front of the tv.0
