Can anyone tell me where to get the gripper things that go over your shoes please? I had a couple of sites bookmarked last year (they were sold out when I tried to get them, but want to get some in preparation) but have lost my bookmarks. I know QVC were doing them, but I can't find them on their site at the moment.

    Thanks again Sunny!

I now know what you mean. My curtains are all tab stops. How would I do it?

    Thanks

    I have tab-top curtains too.

I wanted to create extra thermal insulation, and, instead of adding a thermal lining to the existing tab-top curtains, I simply hung a second (thick blanket fabric) from the curtain pole, so it hung up behind the main curtain (so couldn't really see it at all!).

To do this, I first hemmed a rectangle shape for the curtain, from a blanket, but also then had to make tab-tops for the thermal curtain. I just used safety pins to attached lengths of matching fabric (e.g. wide binding tape, or strips of spare blanket fabric), to the new thermal curtain.
Then I hung up both curtains on the pole, but alternating the tabs for the main curtain and the thermal curtain (IYSWIM).
This allows both curtains to be hung up at the same time, with one in front of the other. YOu will still be able to see the tab-tops of the thermal curtain, once it's up, but otherwise, with a bit of nifty curtain-drawing, the blanket layer is out of sight.

Easiest solution for me, anyway, not being handy with sewing machine! And made a huge difference to heat loss too.

I've noticed that the blackberries around here are ripening about a month earlier than normal and also, it seems that spider season has started a month early too.

With the snows that we had over the last two winters, we found that we got stuck at home as we live on a hill up a country lane and the road became an ice rink. Even the tractors had trouble.

So, I'll be making sure that I have plenty of milk powder and bread flour and I always keep a good stock of tins, rice and pasta.

The link that was posted earlier that mentioned food price rises also mentioned that animal feed costs would go up, so I think I'll stock up on layers pellets and corn mix for the chickens before the cost of those goes up.

If people are sensible and have walking boots with a reasonable tread rather than Ugg boots there isn't really any need for ice spikes. Spikes are only really useful on sheet ice and generally there isn't much of that around. I lived in Sweden for 2 years with very long winters and hardly anyone bothered with spikes. On the other hand they weren't walking in heels or Uggs, it was quite funny last winter to see people walking around in Uggs :)
