Just a quick tip for fellow wood/multi fuel stove owners. WD40 is brilliant at getting the gunk off the glass in the stove doors and it doesn't leave a flameable (sp?) residue.:D
  • Well new boiler being fitted today and I am freezing but it will be worth it when it is finished.
It is a horrible grey damp day here in the South so with everything going on in the house I am having a knitting day - DD scarf nearly finished. Then I can finish the cardi for me that I have started
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

Aless I looked at blankets on ebay last year as I do not have easy access to an Ikea or Asda. I don't know how much it would cost you to get to Ikea but postage on blankets on ebay can be from the blinking ridiculous to astronomical.Good luck with your hunt.
I bought some fleeces off ebay the other day which had £3 postage my nearest shop of any description selling fleeces is a 30 mile round trip, so for me the postage was good.
    My self & hubby; 2 sons (30 & 26). Hubby also a found daughter (37).
Eldest son has his own house with partner & her 2 children (11 & 10)
Youngest son & fiancé now have own house.
    So we’re empty nesters.
    Daughter married with 3 boys (12, 9 & 5).
My mother always served up leftovers we never knew what the original meal was. - Tracey Ulman

Crisp here this morning but the sun is dazzling.

Edited: Hmmm thinking about it - maybe an important part of my winter preparation should be making up a reading list of all the 'feel good' books for those long winter evenings when I'm feeling low.
Now where should I start....

Weather is the same here in Coventry, I love cold and bright!

As to the feel good books, I adore the Miss Read books which are set in the 50's and are full of open fires, homemade wine and no tv. If I'm poorly they are the ones I turn to. I'm sure there are others I like too but I can't bring them to mind (poor old soul that I am:rotfl:)

    Hi Guys n Gals,

Southwest Scotland was very chilly this morning, looked like there had been a touch of frost, all windows condensated and it's only jusy hitting 13 degrees in my livingroom now, so will probably light the fire. Despite that, it is sunny with enough heat in the sunshine to dry the washing, I hope! Wooly legwarmers are back into circulation and I'll get more fleeces this weekend as friend is bringing them from her A$da store. Must remember to get more velcro! Going to light the fire again - third day in a row - as this north facing livingroom will get no decent sunshine from now until next April or May. :rotfl: It's almost tme to hibernate.

I had a tiny gap running underneath the windowsill which let in enough draught to move the curtains, I filled it with white 'blu tac' rolled into a thin sausage shape and push in with the edge of a knife. Would probably work around a window as well, and if your paint work is white it doesn't show.

Last couple of days have felt very cold in the morning, checking the thermostat it clicked at about 14 degrees but I haven't bothered to put the heating on, I'm determined to last a couple more weeks! There was also loads of condensation inside the windows. Wrapping up in fleecy blankets is working for now though.

today has been a beautiful day. it is really dull, grey , raining and quite chilly. But i'v e realised i've lost my slipper's. i had some fluffy, fleecey pull on boots type one's. I just cna't find them . i un packed all my winter clothes at weekend and they are no where.

i seem to be in the habit of loosing stuff recently. not sure if it cause i'm a scatter brain or that the entire hosue is upside down due to extention. however if i can't find them i will go and get some as my toes have been freezing today so i've kept my thick fleecy ugg style boots on. as we have all wood or quarry tiles floors downstairs so gets cold underfoot. i do have tho a nice carpet for our new lounge so that will be nice.

hopefully this is the start to the winter now, and it just keep s getting colder and wetter.

That's it then- I'll have scoot around my online library and request a few over the winter months. :T What a lovely way to spend the winter. :D
