To put it simply: I'm cold... .
My room is freezing cold and I was wondering if anyone had any advice to warm it up. The heater is an electric one which never seems to heat the room (and is very expensive to run). The windows are only single panes but my landlord says he needs planning permission to make them double-glazed so that is unlikely to happen before the winter.
Can anyone suggest anything else? Sellotape around the windows? Some other sort of (cheap) heater? Thank you... :-)0 -
Good grief its chilly sat in the Living Room tonight. I have sock and slippers on to keep my feet warm and a thick top. I can feel a draft raging around the room - I think it is coming from the chimney
Oh no! How will I manage to keep the heating off this month? I didn't want to put it on until the middle of October (at the earliest to see if I could manage it).

hope that helps. i'm sure there will be loads of advice from the lovely people on here for youI'm trying so hard to be thrifty, but it doesn't come naturally. You lot are an inspiration!JUST LOVES THE O/S BOARD0 -
We libe in a very cold old house but have slowly got used to it, it just means that you can't invite friends over for 6months of the year haha, as they wouldn't be able to cope!
We have no heating at all upstairs and sleep with the windows open as everyone gets so hot - trouble is the cold air then travels downstairs into the lounge but I can't shut bedroom doors as I need to be able to hear when my 4yr old wakes.
We also have a single block kitchen and bathroom! The kicthen has heating (night storage) so is okayish in the day but at night its blumming freezing as is the bathroom. We literally get in, wash and get straight back out!
Am definitely going to get a curtain at the back door but its catch 22 when its single block as keeping the hot air in just means more condensation and mould!!!
We have hot water bottles to warm the beds beforehand and I have a heater for DD's room but literally stick it on for an hour before she goes to bed and then its switched off.
Am open to any ideas:D0 -

Hehe, thank you; I shall work my way through that check-list!0 -
Try simple things - like hot water bottles in bed, warm drinks, draught excluders - etc. You can also buy double glazing that you use a hairdryer to seal over the windows - its a bit like clingfilm.
Hope this helpsMe, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx

Any idea where I would get that double glazing...? It sounds like a good, fairly simple idea... .0 -

Could you use a baby monitor for your 4yr old so you would know when he wakes? If he doesn't want it in his room it might still be enough to have it just outside the doorIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -
Just bought DS some thick thermal slipper socks, was looking for Totes Toasties but they were really expensive so found a similar pair in poundland. He gets up quite early and doesnt put slippers on so these should keep his feet warm.0
