Kittie, I've been thinking about getting a portiere rod but I'm not sure if it would fit. Can you tell me if the fittings are above the door, or is the rod longer than the width of the door?
The ones I have looked at fix to the door but rise as it opens. i can't fit one in the kitchen as the door is in a reces and there is nowhere for the rail to rise to!0 -
Thanks.
Ours is in a bit of a recess and the side the hinges are on, the wall comes out at right angles to the door. I'm wondering if I can fit it above the recessed bit, but it would have to be bent to fit on the wall. It's hard to explain!
I think what I'll have to do is contact one of the places that sell them and send them a picture to see if they have any that are suitable.
Glad you asked this... from what you're saying it sounds the same as what I want. Can you let me know how you get on... and post a pic of your door for comparison if that's not too cheeky an ask please.TOP MONEYSAVING TIP
Make your own Pot Noodles using a flower pot, sawdust and some old shoe laces. Pour in boiling water, stir then allow to stand for two minutes before taking one mouthful, and throwing away. Just like the real thing!0 -

I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas to try and warm my kitchen up? It's an offshot built onto the back of our terrace house, long & narrow and it's freezing in the winter. We did have someone round to put cavity insulation in but apparently the gap wasn't big enough?
I put a curtain up at the back door which helps a little but I've only got venetians up at the windows, would curtains make much of a difference and if so what clour will go with yellow walls?
There is a radiator in there but it doesn't really help as the radiator only ever just gets warm. I've had the heating serviced but it's an old system and apparently the pump isn't powerful enough & the radiator was added to the end of the system some time after the heating was put in (I think). It's a rented house so there's nothing I can do about it.
I've managed to keep the rest of the house warm (old terrace with thick walls & no cavity) but the kitchen is sometimes almost unbearable to work in. I open the oven door when I've finished cooking to get some benefit from the residual heat but we normally end up having to stick the halogen heater on and I'm worried about how much electric they use.
Anyone got any ideas, other than moving?Dum Spiro Spero0 -

I guessed if I used some foam rolls, a bit like you get to insulate pipes, and a bit of material with 2 straight pockets sewn in either side, it should work?Dum Spiro Spero0 -
