Preparing for Winter

I used to have 2 really big scarves and wore them (one at a time
) like this. they made such a difference on cold winter mornings waiting for city buses. Going to see if I have either of them left in the wardrobe - fashion is for people who dont have ideas of their own! I'm pinching your idea though :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
It's not pinching, it's sharing!!:D I intend to do exactly the same thing myself as I kept a couple of my scaves too. They were too beautiful to get rid of and have sat in the drawer every since.0 -
i'm really upset as i can't find the cot duvet for my son's cot. i bought it for my middle son ( cost £25 , which i though was alot for something so small but planned on never getting rid) and i can't find it anywhere. i've got a feeling as it was in a blackbag it got sent to the chairty when i sorted out all the old spare bedding and curtains which also was in black bag. so i am thinking i can maybe cut a single duvet in half for the cot bed.
Any ideas if this is possible ?
It is dead easy to do (I'm assuming you've got a sewing machine?) I've just cut down a feather & down superking quilt down to a double. I just sewed two lines of stitches about half an inch apart all the way around and then just cut between them. Then I oversewed the raw edge. You may not even have to do two rows if your quilt is filled with polyester. Good luck x0 -
I'm considering buying a sleeping bag to put inside my bed, under the duvet. I work nights and my house is freezing in the winter when I get home in the morning, but as I am going straight to bed it isn't worth putting the heating on. Has anyone tried this?0

I haven't tried it but it sounds like it should work, especially if you have a hot water bottle in there with you!
I personally find it much easier to sleep when the room is cold (and I'm snuggled down and warm of course:D). A hot room has me waking up every hour:eek:0 -
hey missychrissy, yes and it''s snuggly, have you got your heating on a timer? might be worth just having it on for an hour to take the edge offNonny mouse and Proud!!

thanks olliebeak. last year a hotel offten up some spare pillows ( they were immacutlate) just come back from cleaners anyway lady said would i please take some single duvets as she had so many. so i've got about 4 spare single duvet's.so i don't mind cutting one up. what i thought i could do as i've got a 13.5 tog one is use half to go on the cot matteress and with the other half make a small duvet cover so my son has a thicker duvet for the top aswell., if that make sence.
Yes i do have a sewing machine. so i will sew it first before i cut. fab tip thankyou.0 -

Ikea have some from as little as £1.69 for 170cms x 130cms.
http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/00070489 (pale blue only - 170cms x 130cms - £1.69)
http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/80089927 (white/red/green/navy/black/ - 170cms x 130cms - £2.79)
http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/20119183
(NOT FLEECE - orange/brown/dark grey/green - acrylic/polyester/mohair - 170cms x 130cms - £5.99
I'm not sure how big (or how small) 170cms x 130cms actually is, but if you live near an Ikea, it may be worth having a nosey around the store.
It's always a good idea to check out your local Poundland, Poundstretcher, InShops, B&M Bargains, HomeBargains, Wilkinsons etc as they often have good bargains in their shops.0 -
