Preparing for Winter

Hi all
Oystercatcher, such true words! Yesterday my DH brought our usual 2 hot water bottles to bed and while I was in bed I noticed one was leaking. When we looked better we found that the thread where you screw the top was loosened, nearly broken.
Now we are only using one :-( but someone here had posted of somewhere where you can get them cheap, I would be grateful for the tip again if possible. Thank you!
Pagangirl, I bought two moisture traps in Wilkinson (and miraculously got 20% discount, they must have been doing some promotion!). I put one in my bedroom and one in the bathroom, and both rooms seem really drier, and not so much condensation on the windows.
But there is no water at the bottom of the traps! Does it accumulate in the crystals? How does it work, when the water is in the bottom of the traps, how do I remove it without wetting or touching the crystals - I assume they are corrosive, to see what they say in the pack.
Thanks for any advice you can give me, sorry if I sound so dense about it all, never seen these things before in my life!
Farfallina, thanks for your tips about M&S Thermals, I am going to have a look in the storenext time I pass one - and then of course order online via Quidco for the extra 5% discount!
CaterinaFinally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Caterina - I got a hot water bottle with fleece for £2.49 from the PDSA charity shop. It has the British Standards stamp on the bottle.

Is it something they sell regularly as a matter of course or was it a lucky second hand find? If they have them as regular items I shall look for one of their shops! Thanks Farfallina!

Caterina,it can take a while to actually get water in the bottom. The crystals will harden and sometimes get a brown crust on top before there is too much water in them and they start to break down.It just depends on how much moisture is about.0 -

I guess that explains whats happened to the crystals I've put in my wardrobes. They have just gone hard - and no sign of any water. (Decided I'd better use these in the wardrobes as I'd found some more little-used clothes with mould growing on them again!). Hopefully that'll do the trick and I won't have to wash any more perfectly clean clothes again - as that has happened to them.0
