Do you have a hot water tank in your airing cupboard?? If so try looking on that. Thats where my temp dial is :) its actually attached to the tank

No. The water heats automatically when you turn the tap on (well, you have to wait a minute or two until the water comes through!) so there's no need for a hot water tank.

wow. Ok so here are my plans for winter planning. 1....going to see about having all the old duvets cleaned (we use these under our bottom sheets too). 2....going to go through all bubs clothes and get a winter wardrobe ready. 3.... clean out kitchen cupboards to make space for a stock cupboard! 4....see if i can nab a freecycled fridge/freezer of some form as our freezer is tiny and could do with extra space. 5....get bf to start making more candles again(lol hes a candlemaker!).6....dig out all the fleece blankets and make sure they are clean.7....find curtain for front door and letter box draught excluder.8....looking through mine and bf cupboards for winter clothes.9....buying lots more socks, slippers, thermals, pjs etc for everyone.10....get double glazing sheeting for windows (bloody council flat).11....fit venetian blinds on living room windows and bedrooms to help reflect heat back into the room.12....tin foil boards behind radiators on external walls (we had cavity wall insulation fitted but i still fancy trying this as we lose alot of heat still)13. Will not turn the thermostat above 18 degrees unless absolutely neccessary.14....Planning garden for next year - god damn it i will grow soem fresh veg if it kills me - had plans to this year but never got around to planting it etc so next year thats my challenge.15...Finish off rag garlands to help keep warmth in.16....again thanks to the council windows, put drip strips under the windows to collect the ton of nasty condensation we have in the winter.17.... Make some more hot dog draught excluders.I have already turned off unused radiators - hallway and bathroom, plus our room because there is currently a 3 seater settee in the way of it!! Got my plan for winter freezer stock - soups mainly. looked through bens clothes for things that dont fit anymore etc for them to be recycled on freecycle or charity shop. Found out the dogs coat and jumpers for the winter weather ahead, found out mini heater for a quick blast of heat to warm up in the morning when the weather really starts getting cold. I also already leave the oven open to help heat the kitchen (its barely big enough to turn round in let alone swing anything) so heats up quite quickly. Phew think i had better get started now

Do some of you have lots of power cuts in the winter? I'm just wondering, because a few of you seem to be stocking up on candles.

We get some gale force winds where we are and quite often powercuts. Rather than moan about the power being off (remember the poor sods that have to get up on the cables to mend them) we resort ot ancient style rather than old style ;) .

I do have a hot water tank; it has 2 twiddly knobs, one with the dial, both marked "Bar", and it links up to a rather complicated box which handles peak/off peak time and boost, but none of the options seem to mention temperature. Not even the instructions mention it!! I think it might be a dead loss :( Oh well!

Mines a little square box with a plastic dial (I need a screwdriver to turn it) with a few numbers on. It sits on the side of the tank so if you have a jacket on it (mines spray foamed) it may be under that!

Tried to find a piccy on google and failed so been up and taken one so you can see what mine looks like :)

we get power cuts regularly here too, its usually the high winds that bring the cables down - one of the joys of country living I think!

I keep loads of candles in, and I have my little candle stove so I can make a hot drink, warm some soup or fill a hot water bottle (all electric here :( ) I have wind up torches and radio here and I learnt years ago that I was better of with a wind up alarm clock too! :D
... don't throw the string away. You always need string! :D

Perhaps you should start the 'getting ready for Summer (2008)' thread and then you'll look super organised :rotfl:
