Fantastic thread! I love winter, we have had some quite warm weather this summer and I am looking forward to hiding the flab under a big sweater.

How do I make a snake draft excluder for the door?

I have done most of my xmas shopping, just 3 more presents to buy, and cards to write (i'll do that once my Puddings have gone back to school), I am thinking of my Christmas Lunch table, I am looking for 4/6 goldish/brown glittery pear decorations so I can pop name tags on them, any ideas..

I have today as we have had fantastic weather, got the garden ready for the winter, pruned everything in site, dug up the bedding plants, I was sick of them, I am not green fingered and they weren't doing too well, touched up the fence, and I will paint the garden gate once Puds are at school.

I have booked the cottage for next July holidays, bought all the birthday/anniversary cards for next year and completed the copy over of the 2007 calendar to 2008 calendar.

Can you tell I will do anything to get out of the ironing....I hate it, its the only thing I miss about not working, I paid someone to do it!

    Hi Merlot
To make a snake draught excluder
Take a piece of fabric approx 12 inches x the width of your door plus 3 inches.
Fold the fabric in half lengthways right sides together & sew approx half inch from raw edge along one short edge & the long edge, turn the right way out & stuff firmly, I use old tights & tshirts cut up small. Sew up the last seam, I add a red felt tongue as I'm sewing this seam up I then add 2 felt or button eyes just above the tongue.

hester if you make two and join them together with a strip of cloth, strongish, you can slip it under the door so that when you open and close the door the draught excluder goes with it, if you see what i mean
before my os days i bought one from betterware
you join them together all the way down, hope i have explained it okay

I just went to a local ex catalogue shop and bought 4 prs of curtains, nice, lined and dark warm colours for the winter, £100 for 4 pairs instead of £580. 90"x90" /66" x 72" too.

Justamum - if you know the model number of the existing cat flap you may just be able to buy a replacement flap from the manufacturer rather than replace the whole unit. Staywell definately do that, as I've had to do taht when when Bailey-cat bashed the flap to pieces one time I was trying to keep him in!

Luckily our council asked if we wanted them and the carpets left. I also managed to persuade them to leave the rayburn and the open fire and not to put the oil heating in.

Well done you! I envy you the rayburn, used to love mine, all my hot water, 7 radiators and cooking plus a nice warm kitchen all the time! I used to rise my dough and make yoghurt, and it was so nice to come down to a warm kettle first thing in the mornng!
