Coal in Woodburner
Guestout
I have recently moved into a house where the central and water heating is run from a wood burning stove. I have been told that the best way to keep the fire in is to use coal.
This will be particularly important to me- am single and sometimes work 12- 14 hour days so there is no one else to nurture fire.
New territory for me. What sort of coal should I be buying?
The stove is an Olympberyl Aidan 50,000 btu to water 20,000 to radiator if that helps anyone.

If it is a 'woodburner' then you should never try to burn coal in it. It will ruin it. Woodburners don't have grates, which coal and smokeless fuels need to burn properly.
If it's a 'muultifuel' stove then you still should never burn actual coal (ie 'house coal') - what you need is smokeless fuel. If you burn ordinary coal you will clog the flue with soot within days, leading to a potential dangerous build up of fumes and quite possibly a fire in the chimney/liner.
Get it swept by a professional chimney sweep and ask him to tell you what type of stove it is and what he recommends. Then get it from a proper coal merchant who will sell you the right fuel for your appliance.0 -
If it's this one - http://www.olymberylstoveireland.com/Products1.aspx
it's a multi fuel stove.0 -
What I said applies, all the same.0

Perhaps should have been clear rather than used generic term - yes it's multifuel.
Thanks to both for your interest. Gives me a steer at why I am looking at what.
Quantities are the next conundrum.0
