So my broadband and phone went down. I reported fault, phoned, hassled and so on but it was 2 1/2 weeks before it was fixed. My provider is SSE and I know it was an openreach issue not theirs, however it was a long time. I live in a rural area with no mobile reception and usually can work from home the odd day so it was pretty inconvenient. They phoned me up and asked me what I expected. I asked what was usual in these situations. She said well, you won't have to pay for the time it was unavailable. I said I'd call back.
What do I ask for? What should I reasonably expect? A couple of months free bb?

2 and a half weeks credit to your account is what you can expect if I'm correct in that you don't have a business line. You may be able to push them for some extra goodwill payment but don't hold your breath!0

As above. There is no SLA on a residential service, Your compo will be a credit for the downtime only. And you need to ask for it, since it's not automtically credited. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

I did quite well from BT some years back, moving into a new build where mine was one of the first to be finished. I had a date for the phone to go live but they couldnt put the cables in as they were still doing groundworks.
I think i got £160? I didnt ask for it they just said because they failed to install the line by the set date here is a cheque.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
I got £100 for a botched hole through the wall.
The BT engineer drilled through, and a big piece of brick fell out externally, which he refilled with Polyfiller.
For service outage, you'll be lucky to get a tenner.
My BT Infinity went down over a day ago, called up today, 4th September, and the estimated date for action down at the exchange is 9th September.
Phone is still working, so it just takes somebody to actually enable something.
This is why I am using the EE broadband instead, on the alternative line. If you think your inconvenience is worth more, then you need to spend the extra to have a backup mechanism.
You could use a mobile Hotspot, if a second line is too much.0 -
Agree with the other posters, you're entitle to 2.5 weeks of credit (which is what? £2-£4 quid?) and nothing more.
Most ISP's forbid residential connections for business use anyway, so you're only going to get laughed at for demanding compo for business losses etc.
The two posters above have been given compo for quite severe faults which are completely unrelated to a basic service outage.0
