I havwe a media player connected via network to my TV , I can right click on any files (audio/vid) and "cast to" the player.
is there a popular windows media player that has this option on its menu ,
closest I can find is "films and TV" app , win 10 , however it refuses to cast , It searches for Bluetooth or other wifi devices , but omits network devices
I am streaming to a device that is running xbmc/kodi
the film and TV app will however stream to a sum micro android device , but not the xbmc , both will right click/cast to
anyone think of a suitable player?

You need to Turn on Media Streaming (under the Stream option in Library) and I suspect it is fussy about which devices it finds. But it does exist.0 -
where? I cannot see one in windows MEDIA player , I can see extra options in the library bit , but I do not use the "library"0

Your nuc running kodi is a server , not a client. You need to share the source Win 10 files with the kodi server, unless someone can prove us wrong. I am assuming your TV is not a "smart" TV that understands DLNA?.4.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex . Following on ....If your TV does work with most DLNA servers I use serviio on W10/7 and that works ok with my Sammy.4.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex . Aint no sunshine ☀️ Octopus gas fixed dec 24 @ 5.74 tracker again+ Octopus Intelligent Flux leccy0

the TV is not a smart one
I note your comments that xbmc/kodi is a server , and not a client
please can you explain to me why , if I right click on a MP4 , and "cast to" , it acts as a client?
you said it was a server , not a client , well if its streaming a MP4 , it must be acting as a client?
edit: the MP4s are on a nas drive connected to my network , not hosted on the PC0 -
Aaargh freddie just typed a missive and lost my link....
Anyhow when you say you can right click and "cast to" from where is that ? If that works then what does Kodi do with it ?
Have you got the MediaBrowserServer (emby I think..?) running on your kodi box?
On your W10 box you could try VLC and stream from that or use serviio , but I am confused about what you are really trying to achieve , perhaps my perceptions are :beer:4.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex . ok this box (intel nuc) is running the stand alone Linux "openelec" version of xbmc/kodi , there is no windoze near it , the drive is formatted as ext4 , I also have a collection of films/music stored on this drive
I can see the film/music folders via explorer in a windoze box , and can indeed add and remove files.
I also have a collection of files on a nas drive , this I can also see in windoze explorer ,
if I locate a MP4 and right click , the options (I am on win 10 , but same in win 8 and possably win 7) to play , or to cast , I click on cast , a player opens with no film display and my TV/nuc , stops what its doing and plays the film.
via experimenting I found that in win 10 the new prog TV and films has a cast to , and it sees the intel , but just buzzes away doing nothing
so the nuc/xbmc is acting as a media player , its just windoze proggys that are not configured
DivX does not work
VLC player does not work
Win media player , can go in the bin , its crap for my needs.
"Anyhow when you say you can right click and "cast to" from where is that ? If that works then what does Kodi do with it ?"
I right click on a mp4 file in windows explorer , one of the tabs says cast to , I click , the xbmc box stops what its doing and plays the mp40 -
Sort of understand now, have you tried serviio on your W10 box? I realistically cannot configure one of my pcs at the moment to install kodi but I wish you luck for now and if I can think of anything else will let you know.
Hang on, have you shared the files on W10 so that the nuc can see them? Oh and why you can't you just login to the nuc and play what you want from wherever you have them?4.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex . Just had another thought , possibly because you can only login to the nuc using telnet, try using VNC / putty , got to meet someone at the station will be back4.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex . Hang on, have you shared the files on W10 so that the nuc can see them? yes I have file sharing on , I can see the nuc (ext4) apart fron the hidden Linux sys files , I also have a dlink nas which is used all the time , and there are other machines coming and going off the network (repair jobs)
Oh and why you can't you just login to the nuc and play what you want from wherever you have them? there are no passwords set on the xbmx (openelc) system
will try the serviio programme to see if its sutable
if you want to do a quick install of xbmc , try TVMC (for windows) , cant see a link at the moment , http://www.htpcbeginner.com/tvmc-out-of-the-box-kodi-solution/
installs in about 2 mins , go to vid addons anfd click "configure tvmc , it sets up lots of default addons and is good enough to run0
