Evening all :)

I'm really not sure if I'm posting this in the correct place or not :/

From next week I will be working away for 5 days a week, my train tickets and hotel has been booked and paid for by my new employees, but I was wondering what types of food can I buy to eat in my hotel room?
Obviously I will have very limited facilities and I don't want to eat in the hotel restaurant as that will be very costly.

  • my favourite is boiling eggs in the kettle. Easy and delicious!! We can make 4 at a time depending on kettle size and they keep well on the side so you can have as breakfast the next day.
  • I love that idea and would never of thought of it.
    Thank you :)

A stock of apples, bananas and mixed nuts and sultanas would be good. Also some ceral bar snacks although these are high in sugar. Take a mug, a spoon and some packets of instant soup. Could you face the inevitable Pot noodles? Finding a constant healthy diet five days a week will be quite a challenge. Let us know what you come up with.

Where are you staying? Would you have supermarkets close by? Try google.
Why pay full price when you may get it YS ;)

I used to take my own fridge so I had milk, ham butter etc and had a box of cereal and bread.

I was away on a 5 week contract and the hotel would even store my fridge on the weekends for me - I had a good rapport with them

Why is your employer not providing for food etc.

Your employer should be providing dinner at the very least.

I have a £20 allowance for dinner, but have to provide my own lunch in the same way as I would when I am at home. Most people tend to buy lunches anyway instead of taking a packed lunch when not travelling.

I would recommend contacting the HR or finance person of your new company and asking them what the standard practice is.

One of the problems with expenses is that they're reimbursed.... maybe a month later. For many people this means they can't avail themselves of the facility.
  • Thank you for all of your kind replies.

I think the company could be providing money for an evening meal however, I am assuming it would have to go through expenses. There was a 4 week gap between finishing my last job and starting the new one so I have £120 to last until pay day, and that's not going to last long if I'm eating out 5 days a week :/

I start the new job on Monday so I guess I will find out then if I have an allowance for food.
  • HOWMUCH - I'm going to be staying in London so no doubt there will be plenty of supermarkets and convenience stores neary hotel.
