  • We won a family trip away when were skint with breakfast and dinner paid for but only had lunch for us 5 to cover in our hotel room. Bought a toastie machine from Mr T for a fiver (did two toasties at a time) - and between that, pot noodles and cup a soup and fruit managed absolutely fine for a week. Noddle toastie especially nice. If you can take a cool bag it might be worth taking extra cool blocks and seeing if the hotel can keep a set frozen for you to keep things cold? Otherwise well sealed in bath/sink full of cold water does a pretty decent job

I frequently stay in London / Brum in pre-paid hotels. Although I can claim for an evening meal its up to 6 weeks to get it back - and it adds up. I have dinner out of the in-town express supermarkets - pre- made cold pasta. Sometimes I top up the first few days with a lunch box with fresh fruit & veg. good idea to have lunch with local colleagues & check out where they buy their stuff! In the W end sandwiches can be v expensive unless you know where to look.

To be honest with £12 a day I'd be searching the local small eateries / cafes etc. I suspect you'd get a pretty solid meal for half that (eg the localish cafe to my workplace, even though in London, does a full english breakfast all day for £4.80).

I suspect after the first three days or so, you might even get a little extra piled on as a "regular" (note, if you stuck to a full english every day the same might apply to the waistline though ...)
