Yes, but you'll probably find their call-out charge is more than double that you'd pay locally. For example, LG wanted to charge me £100.00 call out, locally £40.00 or £25.00.

    Yes, I agree.

But the point I was contesting was "that a 10 year parts covered was only valid if you take out their over-priced labour policy".

This is an old thread I know, but my mum just bought a Hotpoint cooker and on the 10 years parts guarantee conditons it expressly states, 'for the parts guarantee to be valid, the repairs need to be carried out by our engineers'.

Yes, but as I said earlier...

You do not have to take out 'their over-priced labour policy' to take advantage of their 10 year parts guarantee.

It's just that if you don't take out 'their over-priced labour policy', then you will have to pay a call-out charge, but the necessary parts will still be free.

Sad to see Hotpoint are still selling these free parts warranty when it is tied to an overcharging cost on the labour charge.

The white goods we bought last year are still going fine.

Stand alone fridge freezer - Philips bought for £220, working fine.

The hotpoint washing machine is fine, and the Smeg Tumble dryer is a delight.

It's not a scam or a con, it is just a marketing ploy, which, in my opinion, really isn't worth consideration when purchasing. A local repair man we have used charged £38 call out and another £20 to fix our old dishwasher (2013)
