Hi, Just bought a new Hotpoint washing machine. Saw they had a shiny sticker that say's phone for free 10 years parts warranty.
Phoned up, and they said that its only valid with a Hotpoint technician who will charge £110 per event, then tried to flog me accidental cover at 3 per month for 20 months.
Said no thanks. Has anyone been able to use this 10 year warranty, or is it a scam?

You should have received a leaflet explaining the terms of the warranty. It is useful for higher value parts. You also have rights against the retailer where the item is inherently faulty.0

Repairs and services by manufacturer accredited companies are more expensive.' as we have found with Sony and Canon, where independents were much cheaper.
The men who fitted my new gas boiler said they were considering being accredited, as it sounded professional, but decided not to as they would have to pay a fee per job to the manufacturer, thus forcing them to have to increase their prices to cover.0 -
I would consider a parts only warranty fairly useless given the high cost of call outs. Better to buy a machine with a free five year parts and labour warranty.0

Thanks for the feedback.
No leaflet - so was surprised that a 10 year parts covered was only valid if you take out their over-priced labour policy.
We had to buy a machine that would fit under our worktop. the height was 845mm; so we spent time at Currys measuring different models. Hotpoint was the only make that fitted.
This was our 2nd delivery as first was so damaged that the delivery driver took it away.
Anyway at least it works.0 -

Just bought a Hotpoint dryer, same story either pay £2.30 a month or pay £94.99 per call out, said I only need parts not an engineer, reply was still got to pay £94.99 per part needed.
What a scam, complete waste of my time and the phone call.

I was considering buying a Hotpoint freezer based on their 10 year guarantee, so I am glad that I saw this.
I definitely won't bother now.Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time :eek:0 -
Had the same issue with Hoover washing machine we bought 5 years ago with 5 year free parts guarantee, when switch problem occured thet wanted £150 labour fee, wont buy Hoover again."Imagination is more Important than knowledge"0

I bought my hotpoint washer on sale and had 5 years parts warranty included. I never had to call them out. When that expired I had letter offering me cover for £54 a year which I did take up. I had to call them out a few months ago and it didn't cost me anything. Engineer did want to sell me £1 machine cleaner which you do yourself. It was cheaper than the one I bought in Homebargains

You do not have to take out 'their over-priced labour policy' to take advantage of their 10 year parts guarantee.
It's just that if you don't take out 'their over-priced labour policy', then you will have to pay a call-out charge, but the necessary parts will still be free.0 -

Yes, but you'll probably find their call-out charge is more than double that you'd pay locally. For example, LG wanted to charge me £100.00 call out, locally £40.00 or £25.00.I used to work for Tesco - now retired - speciality Clubcard0
