thanks guys what confused me even more was that on our bmi tiny fare you cant actually use the check in desks apparently you have to use the self service check in. When i called the indian call centre i said this to the chap and he said oh just use the desk and see what they say.

it does say on the website that you cant have seat selection on tiny fare but you would think they would use common sense and put a part of 3 together wouldnt you?

first and last time if bmi. we booked in march they took the money straight away fair enough. Then they call in june to say they have cancelled the 11am flight so you will have to get the 8.40 flight. not to much of an issue, if not an early start!!

Now this its just not on!! Yes i got a bargain as i booked so early. But they are now flogging the same flights that we paid £174 for, for £699. And those people would still get the same crap service that we have had!!

We were gonna go on eurostar but it was slightly more money, wish i had now

I fly with BMI regualty (though not on a Tiny fare  )

Calm down and get to the airport early(ish) and check in, relax and have a good holiday.

It won't be an issue so long as you get there early.
The Indian call centres do not have the authority to change seats on a cheap fare-the airport staff do once check in is open.
At worst the flight attendent will simply ask people to move to accomadate you but you'll get a more positive response if you ask nicely and calmly. I've switched seats on board with British Midland with no problems at all. I just quietly explained the problem and it got sorted out with a smile. Chances are they'll be able to sort it out at check in but GET THERE EARLY and have a great trip :)

99% of the travellers to Brussels on a Monday morning will be commuters to meetings etc, I would think it's a safe bet that someone will swap seats with you to not have to sit next to a child. Not saying Miss Diva isn't an angel but given the chance of sitting next to another adult or a child you don't know what would you choose?

Don't let it worry you too much if the check in staff can't sort it the cabin crew will.

It's sad to see that BMI have descended into the "Indian Call Centre" culture. They used to be an excellent airline who actually cared about their customers, now they appear to be just another "cut costs at all costs" organisation.

You will know who not to fly with next time !

PS: let us know what happens !

OK - I've had this issue before and whilst it's NOT illegal to do this the CAA do advise airlines NOT to split up families
CAA guidelines recommend that airlines develop procedures for the seat allocation of family groups, particularly when a group includes children. It is probable that family group members would seek each other out should an emergency evacuation be required, an action that could adversely affect the rapid evacuation of the aircraft. Children should be seated where they can be adequately supervised by an accompanying adult in the event of turbulence or a decompression in the cabin.

Children, accompanied by adults, should ideally be seated in the same seat row as the adult.

In wide-bodied aircraft, children and accompanying adults should not be separated by more than one aisle. Where this is not possible, children should be separated by no more than one seat row from accompanying adults.

You should be ok if you get there in plenty of time - suggest 30 minutes earlier than you would normally and if necessary print off the details from the CAA website

:rotfl: i would not rather sit next to little miss divadee shes so fidgety :rotfl:

i was thinking the same as you any normal person isnt going to want to sit next to a 9 year child.

Also i do think that bmi will do something, as IF anything did happen can you imagine the stink for bmi????

They wouldnt want any child protection issues arising on a flight would they?

the indian call centres are useless!! they didnt understand what i was trying to say, they just kept going over the same script over and over again.

I will let you know what happens but probably not for a week as i havent got internet access at the inlaws.
