All he's asking is a simple question, if you can't answer dont say anythng

This is no diffrent to when us UK tax payers move to other countries such as Spain, France oh and ITALY (for whatever reason) and need advise in regards to law's etc......

He also mentions that his partner is going to look for work and when she IS working she in effect will become a UK taxpayer

A really nice welcome the op has received, lets hope people that have left the uk are made to feel more welcome.

Sorry op - Welcome by the way

But he's not asking about UK laws. He's specifically asking whether the UK taxpayer will pay his rent for him and his girlfriend - and not just some of it - he's asking if she can claim back all of it
  • I agree. Bit much expecting to come to the UK, study (for free?), have your rent paid etc. Study in your country of birth where you've paid taxes (oops yes its Italy).

No problem in people coming here to study from other countries., but why SHOULD funds to do so come from our taxpayers? Save up, pay your way and I'll be full of admiration. Not otherwise.

    Welcome to Britain:

    No:

    See
    https://www.gov.uk/government/news/new-rules-to-stop-migrants-claiming-housing-benefit
New migrant jobseekers from the European Economic Area (EEA) will no longer be able to get Housing Benefit (HB) from April, Work and Pensions Secretary Iain Duncan Smith announced today (20 January 2014).

The government is determined to cap welfare and reduce immigration as part of Britain’s long-term economic plan and ministers want to make sure the system is fair for hard-working taxpayers.

From the start of April, new EEA jobseekers will no longer be able to access Housing Benefit if they are claiming income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA).

This builds on new rules introduced in January which mean EEA migrants cannot claim income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance until they have been in the country for three months.
    &
    https://www.gov.uk/government/news/eu-jobseekers-barred-from-claiming-universal-credit

After your g/f has a job (unless a "full-time" student ??) she will be entitled to apply for HB/LHA. However she should also explain where she/you got the 6 months rent & any other savings you both have (and any property - or right to be in any property - anywhere in the world) as that might well mean no HB/LHA is payable, or that less than usual is payable.

There are about 1 million people, from all backgrounds, in Britain who work & also get HB/LHA.

Best wishes to all, including those who disagree with me.
  • OP is asking about rules regarding financial benefits in UK - not asking for people's opinion on whether they personally agree with those rules.

Some posters on here seem to be confusing "money saving" with political views....

    That is kind of you.

I fancy moving to Rome for a year or so as I can't live well in the UK.

As UK posters have provided you with links to the rules in the UK perhaps you will kindly reciprocate with the links for claiming the equivalent of JSA and HB in Italy?

    Thanks in advance.
