Housing benefits

Hi everyone.
We are a couple moven in to London from Italy. I will be studying full time for a one-year course at university. My partner who will come in a month or so will be studying English and maybe looking for a job but it is not sure by now. As we dont have a job, landlords are asking for a 6-mont rent payment in advance which will take out all of our savings.
My questions is: can my girlfriend (not married) ask for housing benefits even if we have paid the rent upfront? I know i cant ask for HB due to being studying full time but i will apply for a council tas exception. Can my girlfriend ask for the whole rent?
Thank you

If you and your girlfriend are living together, you won't be allowed a full exemption from council tax, only a 25% reduction.0

have you checked the current/new regulations for those coming to live in UK

Someone else expecting us UK tax payers to keep them.0

Don't know anything about when non UK residents can apply for benefits, but if you were both UK nationals and entitled to claim in the UK then your girlfriend could put in a joint claim for HB to cover all the rent. This would only apply if she was not a student. If you both become full time students then you are not eligible for housing benefit.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. http://www.nidirect.gov.uk/benefits-for-non-uk-nationals-do-i-qualify
says
"From 1 April 2014, EEA jobseekers will not be able to claim Housing Benefit"
and "From 1 January 2014, before an EEA National can claim income based Jobseekers Allowance they must have been living in the UK ... for the three months immediately before making your claim for Jobseekers Allowance."
I think your girlfriend is going to have to do a bit more than 'maybe' look for a job, or you need more savings.0 -
That's a negative from the UK taxpayers.
Not really a negative, more a wait 3 months then you can claim.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Someone else expecting us UK tax payers to keep them.
All he's asking is a simple question, if you can't answer dont say anythng
This is no diffrent to when us UK tax payers move to other countries such as Spain, France oh and ITALY (for whatever reason) and need advise in regards to law's etc......
He also mentions that his partner is going to look for work and when she IS working she in effect will become a UK taxpayer
A really nice welcome the op has received, lets hope people that have left the uk are made to feel more welcome.
Sorry op - Welcome by the way“People are caught up in an egotistic artificial rat race to display a false image to society. We want the biggest house, fanciest car, and we don't mind paying the sky high mortgage to put up that show. We sacrifice our biggest assets our health and time, We feel happy when we see people look up to us and see how successful we are”

Personally, I don't give a rats !!!! how the OP feels at this 'welcome' on a forum on the internet. As a tax payer I think he has a bloody cheek expecting to come to the UK and expect to get his rent paid for him and his girlfriend.
The girlfriend could be months and months looking for a job.
Oh and while we are talking about people leaving the UK..friends of mine have relocated to Denmark from the UK. Difference is, they have saved enough money to live on for a full year (including rent), one of them has secured full time employment and the other is in the process of doing so and they have found somewhere to live. They aren't expecting to be kept in a style to which they are accustomed.0
