Cancelling Sky early

Options
Hi

I have has sky on a full package for the last 9 years, and I renewed with them in May 2015. Recently I got made redundant which has resulted in my having to move back in with the parents for a while. The amount that Sky require to cancel is ridiculous, especially as I am no longer working.

I expected there to be some penalty for trying to cancel , but not something only a few quid short of the rest of the contract.

Is there anything I can do? Apart from see if the parents are out of contract and switch it to their house?

Thanks
P3

Downgrade to the cheapest package. As you are in the minimum term of a contract you will have to pay an early termination charge.

The especially as i am no longer working counts for nothing .Death or Bankrupt will avoid legitimate contract charges .

i had this problem 2 yrs ago,
rang sky spoke to cancellations and explained i couldn't justify 28 for tv when trying to fed my family on 50 a week,
the cost to end contract was 250+ the gentle man said he would ring me back in 30 mins after he spoke to a manager,
he rang back we went through a rough budget plan to show income and expenditure, very rough figures and showed the problem,
he rang me back and said account closed and no bill and gave a code to stop anyone else looking for the cash,,
we talked about other options which were not affordable ,
they left us with free channels so kids have something to watch ,at no cost,
ive always found if you talk to them and are honest they will do there best to help,,

As above, a change in your financial circumstances does not void your minimum term contract, and the ETC is not ridiculous. It's the value left on the contract, and paying that puts the other party back in the same position they would have been in before you broke the contract. That's what you agreed and that is how it works.
