Applying for New School

Hi all, have a bit of a dilemma regarding schools.
We're moving and have agreed a completion date of the 7th of September (the day our kids go back to school).
We are yet to exchange but everyone is ready to do so in a 2 property chain. Given the extremely short timescales and a bank holiday coming up is it wise or madness to apply for the school places now in case anything falls through prior to exchange?

You'd need to check your local authority policy, but in most your application would be based on your current address. Have you checked whether your school of choice will have places?0

How far are you moving? If sale falls through can you get kids to new school and will you still be looking for house in same area? If so I would apply now so kids start school at start of term and don't have to change schools part way through term.0

Is there room at the new school as places for Sept are allocated much earlier in the year so even if you live in catchment you may not get a place.
Until you are living at your new address you cannot apply based on catchment.

Most authorities require you to already live in the area when you apply.0

If it falls through there's very little to choose from as it's quite rural so I can't guarantee it.Is there room at the new school as places for Sept are allocated much earlier in the year so even if you live in catchment you may not get a place.

I have spoken to school admissions for the area and there are places available at our preferred school. I believe they may be happy to proceed even if we are out of the area if there are spaces. Most authorities require you to already live in the area when you apply.
I will have to double check their policy in relation to this as I'm not 100% sure but was led to believe it wouldn't be a problem.0 -
I would apply now. You don't have to go through the local authority, just contact the school direct. We often make offers to children moving into the area. We just ask them to bring in proof of address once they have moved. Best to get the ball rolling0

Can't advise on the schools, but I would correct the 2nd statement: you have NOT agreed a Completion date. You have perhaps (all) proposed 7th Sept.Hi all, have a bit of a dilemma regarding schools.

the date will not be agreed till you Exchange, and there are 227 things that can happen to change that date. Want me to list them?0 -
Most the primary schools in our local town are full to bursting. We were told we would have to accept a poorer school nowhere near our new home, or go on a very long waiting list. It was enough to tip the scales against moving at all.Been away for a while.0

No need to list them, our sale has already fell through once and was on the brink of doing so again until our vendor's agreed to move in with family.
I'll speak to the new authorities schools admissions tomorrow and seek their advice.
I just don't want to be in a position where we have moved but our children's schools haven't.0
