ECP & Debt Recovery Plus, what to do?

Hello all,

Have received an unfair charge from Euro Car Parks a couple of weeks/months ago for overstaying in a Sainsbury's car park. What actually happened was I had to miss one set of cameras due to roadworks, which ended up in looking like I stayed 8 hours when I quite obviously didn't. Anyhow, as was told many times on the internet, I ignored the initial charge for £40, untill it increased to £80 and numerous letters were thrown through my door. ECP then passed me on to the Debt Recovery Plus service, who have threatened referring ECP to take court action if I do not pay the now infinitely increasing £130 fine within 7 days.

I am really unsure what to do, as If I don't pay - from my perspective - I could end up being taken to court which is a big no no.

Any advice?
Thanks,

Kieran!

Not sure where on the internet you got the 'ignore' advice from, that's a few years out of date now, but you've missed the opportunity to appeal this.

Debt Recovery plus cannot take legal action themselves, they can only recommend it to their client. However, once their client takes legal action then DR+ are out of the loop - commission wise - so it's not really in their interests to see legal proceedings on this.

Or maybe DR+ are simply trying to scare you into paying them....

Euro won't do court - the one time they did cost them thousands !!!

You should ignore DRP+ - toothless debt collectors. There is no debt to collect.

Sainsburys should be your target - maybe email the CEO telling him you'll never use his supermarket again unless he gets the charge cancelled - here's his email address - mike.coupe@sainsburys.co.uk

Anybody who thinks you owe them money has court as an option as a way of getting paid.

But you will be notified of their intention long before a court hearing takes place.

So why not wait and see what transpires.

They have 6 years to take action, but even if they do and you end up losing in court you don't get any black mark against you if you pay up after losing in court within a month.
