Hi
having a nightmare with switching from sky to virgin, I have had my landline number for over 40 years and when I switched from sky to virgin I made sure I could keep the same number.
Gave the required 31 days notice to sky to end my subscription and virgin turned up on the required day to fit the new tv , broadband and phone, however as he was leaving he gave me my new phone number and said it would take 7 working days to get my old number back.
4 days later got a call from virgin porting who said they could not do it as sky had cancelled the number and I was to ring sky, tried that and they said because I had cancelled, that number had now gone and I could not have it back and it was my fault.
Rang virgin again and they will try again but cannot promise anything and its sky's fault.
After looking on the internet it appears to be a major problem between all the companies not allowing numbers to be transferred,
I think it is time something was done about this.
UPDATE 28/8/2015
I rang virgin back today as they did not ring me, as promised, they said they could not get my number back and it was sky's fault.
So I rang sky again asking for my original number reactivating and they said they could not and that number was gone for good, even though I had that number over 40 years.
I then rang sky sales and told them I wanted to come back to sky providing I could have the same number back, surprise, surprise if I paid £20 activation fee and signed up for a 12 month contract they would request that number and there was a good chance I would get it, but if they could not I could cancel and get a full refund.
lets see what happens next

Guess what sky cannot get my old number back , they think it has gone into BT quarantine, so have now cancelled sky again.
Will see what BT say next
