Car insurance and speed awareness course
Options
My OH was done for speeding last year and went on a speed awareness course instead of getting points on his licence. He asked the instructor if he had to declare this on any future car insurance application and the instructor said no, it did not count as a conviction or penalty at all.
Is this true? I am renewing our car insurance and do not want to get into trouble for not mentioning it if I have to.

Perhaps you should ask your insurers.
Presently I believe it is only the Admiral group who ask and load premiums for attendance on a Speed Awareness Course.0 -
If they don't ask you don't need to tell them.
If they do ask they have absolutely no way of finding out unless you tell them.
Feel free to draw your own conclusions.......0 -
you go on a speed awareness to avoid having points which you have to declare with your insurance company so no you don't have to declare itSealed pot member 095 SPC No 7 £578.32

You only need to declare it if your insurance company ask you about it.
Some do, some don't.All your base are belong to us.0 -
If you don't declare, there's no way of your insurer's finding out of you're telling the truth or lying!0

Most insurers dont ask about them but a minority do. When they ask about motoring convictions just check the help text and if it says to include courses in lieu of prosecution you know what you need to do0

That may be, or may not be true.
If it's true just now as well, it might not be true in a few weeks / months / years time. All your base are belong to us.0 -

Jesus Christ, you could say that about any statement anyone ever makes.0 -
If they did find out it means that someone has illegally accessed the police computer system - any dispute would make an interesting case if brought in front of the insurance ombudsman and subsequently a judge0
