Also the default Fast Startup means the machine is often in a Hibernation mode when you "shut down", so doesn't want to let you in with F2 or whatever because it thinks the OS is still running.
The Advanced Startup method which Freddy mentions is often the easiest way in, if the OS is actually working.
I have always found a power shutdown does the trick, hibernation or not. I have never set up Secure Boot, too much like Oscar Pretorius with a gun, the only people you inconvenience is yourself.
I much prefer a machine with a sure fire way of getting into the BIOS. If the OS can lock you out even at the BIOS level, sounds maddening.0 -

this is only applicable to newer machines with uefi bios , there are 4 ways to sort this
1: do not set fast boot
2: load your machine from pendrive (whatever) but not from the UEFI mode on the pendrive
3: hold the power button down for about 4 seconds (as per intels instructions)
4: use the feature built into windoze
I always disable fastboot , until I am confident that no more changes are to be made , then enable it , the difference is fantastic , with a ssd we are talking only a few seconds to boot.
I forgot to mention , the NUC is used as a rather fast media centre (onboard films and xbmc) however there is a 256g M.2 card in it , with a full win 10 , however intel in there wisdom set the bios display so far out of sync with a TV that you cannot see the bios , you have to use a HDMI to vga converter , to go in and reset the boot order.0
