I am trying to access the BIOS on my Asus X75V laptop - by pressing F2 at boot up - but the damned thing won't play ball
I think that I have fast boot set - but can't figure out how to circumvent this .....
Any suggestions ?

Windows 8 or Windows 10?
Hold the Shift key down and select Restart from the power-button icon. This should get you into Advanced Startup which might have an option to get into a UEFI Bios.
I believe Shift-Shutdown will also turn it off properly rather than the pseudo-shutdown of Fast Startup. Or the commandshutdown /s /t 0

Holding down the Shift key at the same time as restarting bypasses the quick restart and gives me the desired FULL restart - but still no opportunity to access the BIOS - I have tried both F2 and DEL keys with no effect !!0 -

You haven't booted into any OS when you get into the BIOS.
F2 is supposed to work on my new laptop, but it doesn't seem to work either. F12 is supposed to be for recovering from the original disk image, but it gives you an option to go into the BIOS, on my laptop.0 -

Also the default Fast Startup means the machine is often in a Hibernation mode when you "shut down", so doesn't want to let you in with F2 or whatever because it thinks the OS is still running.
The Advanced Startup method which Freddy mentions is often the easiest way in, if the OS is actually working.0 -
as you say , they go into a type of hibernation , I have an intel nuc that is a real !!!!!! , when you go into the uefi via windows the mouse does not work (needed on a intel nuc bios) , the way to do it is to hold the o/off button till it stops flshing then press once and hit they keys
this is a nuc bios screen0
