Oh lovely, you sound so angry with yourself. Please dont be. I cant imagine what its like having depression and trying to deal with daily life, I can only imagine how that gets in the way of making solid financial choices. You can do this, but please be kinder to yourself. No one is perfect. Good on you for wanting to sort it all out now. The future can only be brighter with that attitude!

  • Thank you so much Bob

Thankfully I feel so much better now. I think I have just let everything get on top of me. However when I read how well people have done, it makes me actually want to tackle it. I was doing so well and then it went wrong.

  • I find that keeping my diary on here, and keeping my budget electronically has really encouraged me and helped me to keep my eye on the ball. It's so easy just to fall back into old ways when something has to give in life. By all means be angry with the debt but don't be hard on yourself - accepting that things are how they are right now is a good place to start.
I wish you luck with debtbusting and health. My DH suffers with depression and anxiety and there are sometimes days or weeks when he can't get out of bed so I know how it can be.

Who are any of us to judge? I am back because I can feel things getting a little out of control again, I come back because I know here I will find understanding and support and I know you will too. Good luck with your health and your next step on DFW journey, I may be walking not that far behind.
Debt free May 2016 (without the support of MSE forum users that would never have been possible - thank you all)
  • I have a couple of people at work who know about my problems so I might try to get them to check up on my spreadsheet every so often. I think it's human nature to hate disappointing people, so that'd stand a good chance at keeping me on track.

    Hi 12 month,

I don't have any real pearls of wisdom to share, I was fortunate that I could always service my debts. I just stopped the big spending that caused the problem ! I was also lucky enough to pay off the mortgage a little while ago so could throw more money at the debts.

I am now on a mission to stop the frivolous waste of money that I am still guilty of and have just signed up to YNAB, so I will let you know if that helps. The people on here know so much more than me and will give you some great advice I'm sure.

Good luck and keep updating us all.

  • Don't feel too bad, these things happen. The most important thing is that you have come back to sort things out and sort them out you will. Stay positive and determined.

I have lurked for a couple of years before finally joining and my debt had gone up and down in that time despite reading other people's stories and nodding along to all the good advice given. Now I am raring to go and it's great having support from people who have gone through the same.

    Good luck with your mission.
  • Thank you all so much for your replies and advice. I rounded up my account and even paid a small payment to a CC. It actually felt good. I would have normally wasted that £9 but I am determined this time. I have done lots of reading on here and will definitely be sticking around and reading more.

Thank you all again and good luck

  • So much excellent advice and info on here its great

Its my sons pay day so instead of giving me my housekeeping money he has sent it straight through to my account. Having the money in my purse means it just dwindles away.

I am waiting for tomorrow as OH gets paid weekly. I can then transfer a little each week into my snowball account as I call it. Also when I get paid in 2 weeks I will transfer some more. Daughters pay day also looms so a little more there.

The plan is to put as much as possible into this account and then when my CC statements arrive I will have the funds to service my snowball calculator payments. This will enable me to chip away at my debt and aim for my debt free day

    This debt busting is addictive

Your plans sound great, maybe the 'payment a day challenge' would help you keep that focus.

Good luck, and don't be disheartened if you need to step back occasionally. Be proud to be dealing with your debt.
