Hi I spoke with my energy supplier through their online app Npower and asked if I was on the cheapest tarrifs for my usage.
The first person said I was on the cheapest tarrifs, and when I asked if I was to change to a non economy 7 tarrif would I be any cheaper and he still said I was on cheapest tarrif.
So I used their own online tarrif checker it said I could save £400 py by changing but the DD amount was higher than I'm paying now?
So I contacted them again through their app and got a different adviser who took all my details and gave me a DD figure of what she said was a cheaper tarrif for me and it was non economy 7
So she set it up for me but I couldn't help thinking it was wrong as it was so much cheaper than what I pay now so I questioned her if this was definitely for both gas and electricity and she assured me it was so time will tell but I'm very dubious as it almost half's my present DD.
How can this be so different?
Thanks

If you don't actually use Economy 7, then it can be more expensive than the standard rate. The nighttime rate may be a lot cheaper, but the daytime rate is more expensive than normal. If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -
You need to give more information before anyone can answer your question. Without knowing your typical annual usage it is difficult to say. It is entirely possible if you do not use storage heating but do use a decent amount of panel heating that a one rate tariff can be hundreds of pounds cheaper.
But you have to suss out yourself the situation.
What is your typical annual usage? Do you have storage heaters?
Once you have a probably annual usage and your postcode pop over to a comparison site and go through the process twice (once for E7 and once without) using the same total annual usage and compare the total costs.
And don't be misled by what your current instalment is - what matters is the cost of the tariff for a certain usage.0 -

Hello Ineedadrink
Thank you for your post.
Typically speaking, if you don't use night storage heaters to heat your home or you use most of your energy during the day, then you may be better off switching to a single rate meter.
If you'd like to email me using the address on our profile page (marking it for my attention!) I'm more than happy to do the maths and provide you with a clear explanation as to what kind of meter would be best.
Regards
Beth
