I went to Ikea for the first time recently after hearing some very mixed reviews. So I decided to keep an open mind.

Well some items looked quite good quality, some were good ideas, but some were like the old MFI reborn (looked like they would fall apart in a strong wind). Their beds are continental sizes (not UK sizes), and their mattresses are terrible quality.

I love their smoked elk sausage.
  • My best friend walked into my house once and said OH MY GOD IT'S AN IKEA SHOWROOM!!!!! LOL
i love the stuff and have never had a complaint i've moved house 3 times and have 6 kids so gets plenty of wear and still looks good as new

60cm kitchen base units are £4.99 in cardiff at the mo
  • An IKEA desk and lots other things got me through my degree in the early 90s and are still going strong. Later, as a design conscious newly married couple we kitted out most of our flat in IKEA gear - everywhere else cheap at that point was still a bit twee so it was the best option for a modern look. We still have lots of things, or have passed on bits and bobs to others and they are still around and in good nick. Best bargain was lots of office table tops dead cheap which still populate our office and studio 7 years down the line. Quality is variable; have had issues with roller blind mechanisms, sofas starting to disintegrate, bed started to get a bit ropey after 4-5 years. On the plus side, they sent a professional furniture bloke to fix the sofa under warranty and he did a great job (so make sure you tell them if you do have problems), we never had problems getting bed linen for their king size bed range, and whilst plastic veneer will never really look like wood, it's the closest match you will get in this price range! One last thing ... a plastic office chair bought in the early 90s now features in design books as a classic so I guess proves worthy of the £12 investment :D

When I got my sofas they come more or less complete apart from putting the legs on- but that wasn't a KLOBO.
