But they have pleaded guilty , end of the matter ? A defence is only of use if you don't plead guilty . Many people come unstuck with the "don't know who was driving" excuse when speeding tickets/nip's come through. Hence why the punishment is virtually double what would have happened if admitted the speeding offence.
That was a reply for jimjames, not the OP.0 -
Thank you. She was told at the court when she rang to adjourn it to plead guilty and appeal!! Can't believe she did this nowSave 12k in 2015 member 187. £62.50/60000

Sorry but a court summons takes priority over work - even school teaching.
This is absolutely right.
You daughter has an obligation to identify the driver and 'it's been loo long, I can't remember' is sometimes accepted as mitigation but this is not common and she should have attended court to put her case. As she chose not to do so perhaps it is best that she chalks this one up to experience and moves on.0 -

Will ring them shortly but I doubt it as she was not told that the call may be recordedSave 12k in 2015 member 187. £62.50/60000

Did she submit a financial means form to the court? If she didn't, then they'll take a standard figure for her weekly income, and base the fine on that. She may have grounds for an appeal against the size of the fine.
But as for the conviction itself... She didn't identify the driver. She didn't demonstrate why she couldn't, despite reasonable efforts. She didn't submit any evidence. She didn't turn up. She just agreed that she hadn't identified the driver. Not a lot to appeal against there, is there?
As for the six months - is the car registered in her name at her current address? The only NIP that has to be received within 14 days is the first one sent, which goes to the registered keeper at the address on the V5C.0 -

Doesn't have to be received either , just has to be sent0 -

It's very difficult to convince the courts it wasn't received though, if there is evidence it has been sent. All your base are belong to us.0
