You need to copy or export a copy of the email file. How you do this or where the original is kept depends on which email client you use.

That's fine. Outlook Express was what I wanted from you (your email client).

Everything you should need on how to export/backup your emails and address book (as well as importing/transferring them) can be found on this page:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/270670
Hopefully it should be straightforward enough to follow. (I couldn't tell you the specific procedures from memory as it's been many years since I used Outlook Express).

far too much info on that link.

    Easy way!
create a new folder in OE (we'll call it backup for now)
drag all emails you want to keep transfer into that folder.
click start > search / find > type in backup.dbx and click go
when it finds the backup.dbx folder just copy it to the cd / memory stick.

    hi
thanks tried the first way and it sort of worked but could'nt open or read them
are you saying copy all emails into a new folder call it back up then do what
you say click start > search / find > type in backup.dbx and click go
when it finds the backup.dbx folder just copy it to the cd / memory stick
will I be able to read them on the new computer ? will have ago now and let you know

if you want all emails just copy all the .dbx files but if you only want some, just copy those into a new folder in OE.
.dbx is the file extension that Outlook Express uses, although you 'may' need to create a folder on OE on the 'new' computer and copy an email in to it just so it can create the folder.. then you copy over it

(that doesn't make sense does it?)

    See http://www.mozilla.org/support/thunderbird/faq.html

How do I export e-mail messages to another mail program or computer?

If you have any problems, please start a new thread with a suitable subject to avoid confusing the issues around two different email programs.
