Unlimited Speed and Usage Broadband

Options
Hello,

I'm currently with Zen, and I've had absolutely no issues for far except I'm paying in total £45 a month. Incl line rental.

My speed and usage are both uncapped. Getting about 69 down and 20 up. I want a similar package where my speeds wont be slowed in peak time, or my speed slowed after certain usage amounts.

I also don't want a provider that prioritises certain package I want them to treat all their traffic the same.

I'm not interested in calls and TV deals either.

Anyone know a provider that's cheaper, or have a good deal on at the moment?

I did consider BT (I don't like that they censor the web though) but it works out at about £47 per month on average.

Thanks.

BT use pretty heavy traffic management. All P2P traffic is virtually stopped completely. Sky claim not to but i have not tested this. I just moved to the 'up to 40 meg' fibre option with Sky but the wired computers in the house (there are 2) both report download speeds that vary from 37 to 57 meg. The WiFi on the Sky router is appalling though.

To be honest Zen may be the only option for you. They specialize in totally unlimited, unmanaged packages for business and gamers etc.

Sky do block a lot of sites where streams originate. Especially those streams that are Sky Movies.

I'm now on TalkTalk and despite being unlimited many streaming sites are blocked by the ISP.

When I was on Tesco (which no longer exists and is now TalkTalk) I could access all of the blocked sites.

However, saying all that a VPN service avoids all the ISP blocking and you can regain access to everything at a small additional cost.

Edit: The site I use to test is watch-series-tv.to

No such animal i'm afraid. The big cheaper suppliers are cheaper for a reason, because you'll have traffic management and congestion at peak periods.
You're already with the cheapest of the "good" providers who offer the kind of decent service you're after.

Try Origin Broadband. I find them to be very good with no traffic management and good price/speed.

    Hi Mathew,

Firstly we do offer a totally unlimited service, we do not operate any usage or speed caps on our service, or prioritise one tariff over another.

You can find full information about this in our Traffic Management Policy. Obviously you are free to choose your supplier as you see fit, the purpose of my post isn't to try and entice you to us with some form of sales pitch, just to provide the relevant information regarding our products, so you can make an informed choice.

    Cheers

  • I had a feeling this was the case.

Origin are very very local to me actually but heard very mixed reviews from them and there's other information I know and I'm unable to disclose which makes me not want to deal with them at all.

As for TalkTalk, I find your traffic management page a little confusing. It seems like you don't block, prioritise, or slow traffic down during peak hours but only audio streaming is listed as "No" under the header "Slowed down" and the others are blank.

With Talk Talk can I use my own router?

Also what is your pricing structure? Incl line rental. Out of curiosity.

Thanks to everyone who has replied, I expected as much with regards to Zen being the provider that's ideal for me.

As for web censorship, it started off with just TPB, but then this spiraled into a bunch of other sites (as I expected) and I'm just not comfortable with that. It should never have been allowed. IMO the internet is a global resource that should not be filtered, or tampered with. No network traffic should be prioritised or slowed down over others. It should all be treated equally.

Being a TalkTalk customer myself. You are welcome to use your own router that's not a problem they'll give you all the details you need to set it up.

They do not operate a traffic management policy everything has access to the full line speed. The speed does drop due to congestion in the evenings. It's manageable.

Pricing is line rental is £16.70 per month. You can add phone and TV packs on if you want. Internet is £5 after any free introductory period that you can get. Fibre costs an extra £10 a month on top of the £5 again after any discount period has ended.

You get a much better router if you opt for fibre. The ADSL router isn't very good but as you are considering using your own that's not a problem.

They do block some sites as explained in my earlier post that Zen do not block.

Oh brilliant, I would be going for the large fibre package looking at their website but I'm struggling to find the cost of this package. I'm trying to add up all the costs.

At the moment I'm paying about £16 line rental and about £30 for the service, costing me about £46 per month. So anything cheaper than that would be ideal. I might be flogging a dead horse here though.

You want the 76Mbps service. That's really fast. You can stream 4K HD at the slower speed of 38Mbps.

Large is an extra £5 on top of the £10 for medium and the £5 for simply broadband.

My estimated line speed would be 20/80 on large, 2/40 on medium and I get 1/16 on ADSL. The fibre cabinet is right outside my house very lucky and the exchange is a couple hundred yards away.

I can stream 1080p HD without any problem on ADSL so I'm leaving it as is.
