Yes, that's the one. It's sitting on the end of my sofa at the moment, whilst I work out how to re-do the wiring.

The phone point is in an awkward place, and my Youview box needs a hard-wired Ethernet connection. The old modem+router combination was easier to work with, so I'm trying to see if I can use the old router as a local switch for the TV-related boxes.

OTOH, I'm guessing the USB3 port will be compatible with my 3TB external drive, that wouldn't work with the old router.

I suppose you have looked at Homeplugs and decided against them.

The TV and Phone point are on opposite sides of the same room, so Homeplugs seem like overkill.

With the old config, I had a single Ethernet cable connecting the modem at the phone point and the router under the TV, and whilst I could have added another one or two cables, that starts to get a bit bulky.

I've fiddled with the Router settings now, and it seems to be working (phone->new router, new router->WAN port of old router, old router has 4 LAN ports available). My Youview box had to be given manual network info, but it's happily connected now.

Unfortunately, my networking knowledge is not great, and also the control panel of the new router has been dumbed down, with many of the more technical options removed. (I need to check to see if there is a back door to a full set of controls).

Now that the config is settled, I've just run another speed test, and I'm getting 48Mbps, which is great.

i have not had any major issues with TT for the past 12 months and after speaking to them online chat they state they are prepared to guarantee me no price rise but on a 24 month contract for bb and landline for £18.75.

The only other option is goto sky for £18.99 for 12 months and £100 pounds back through quidco but then their pricies are likely to go up soon after

In which case you could leave or negotiate a better deal.

Based on my own experiences, I'd choose Sky over TalkTalk every time and the feedback polls agree.

    Hi everyone,

I'm out of contract on TalkTalk's Faster Fibre + unlimited UK calls.
When I first phoned them, the best they offered me was £22.50 for the broadband, plus another £4.75 for the calls.

I then signed up to NOW Broadband's offer for the same at £25 all-in. Factoring in Topcashback, I'll be effectively paying £17.50 per month.

So TalkTalk sent me two letters asking me to call them back for a better deal instead of leaving, and now they're offering me £22.50 for the fibre, and the calls at no additional cost. This is cheaper than NOW, but £5 more expensive if you consider the cashback.

I'd rather stay with TalkTalk if I can due to its inclusion of unlimited 0845 calls via Calling Circle, whereas NOW have a fair use policy of 150 calls per month. Trouble is, I want to shift the price more closer to £17.50.

I told them about the fact that a new TalkTalk customer can get the same price for fibre + £75 shopping voucher via Broadbandchoices, but they weren't prepared to match a third-party offer. I tried to persuade them to give me their new WiFi Hub for free, but they wouldn't give it.

    Any tips?
  • I'm out of contract with TalkTalk.
I still pay £33.50 per month for standard (non fibre) broadband + evening calls. I've been paying this for years.

I recently tried to negotiate a change to fibre broadband + no calls.
I asked for the best deal that is currently available to new customers online... which consists of £23.50 fibre broadband (available to anyone signing up today) + £75 Tesco/Argos voucher (which is available through a third party website to new customers signing up today).

After 3 days of negotiations... being given a fair share of false promises/information... they refused to give me an equivalent deal.

I'm not sure what this adds to the discussion, other than to confirm that they value new customers over existing customers.
  • I've been a talktalk customer for many years and have no problem with their service, neither do I want to change my email address - too many people have it.

However the latest end of 18 month contract price hike annoyed me so I 'chatted' to them on line. I find that easier than trying to understand some of the accents, & possibly they mine. I asked to go back to basic broadband instead of superfast and queried the value of the anytime calls boost as we're not huge landline users. Also mentioned that newcomers get all the deals and long standing customers miss out, what about a loyalty package? I ended up with a drop in the monthly charge for superfast broadband to £25 and half price calls boost to £5. That saves £78 over the year on what I'm paying now, never mind what the increase would have been. Good result without trying too hard. It pays to ask. Good luck!

Contacted TalkTalk using online chat to say I was leaving.
No attempt to offer a deal.
In fact they explained that the renew option on the TalkTalk web site was wrong. The web site implied renewing would give me free any time calls as I'd had that as part of my previous contract.
    (fast fibre for £27.50/mth)
However, on line chat said as I was out of contract that offer had ended.

So I'm off to Virgin as they're faster and cheaper - which was a big surprise!

My reason for posting - using on-line chat isn't always the best way to get a deal at TalkTalk. You may be better off calling them.
