Should I go down the IAS appeal process? Advice needed.

Whatever the "authorative" version may be, the common sense advice is yes you should appeal to the IAS.
The OP asked a question which is clearly covered by the FAQ.
If you are saying that the FAQ (written for us by a professional in the game) is wrong, then it's pointless us telling those newbies who simply start a thread to go to the FAQ and follow it's advice to the letter. And presumably the majority read the FAQ thread and do follow it to the letter.
This issue needs sorting properly.
(The OP has been clearly confused as they have changed their view and decided not to follow the only "authoritative" advice on the FAQ thread, and take on board the views of others who disagree with the Sticky FAQ!)
Both opposing views cannot both be the correct action to take!0 -

Whereas I agree with you in principle, and I support appealing to the IAS, this is a forum where individuals express their own views and, unlike a company or cabinet government, there is no mandatory party line. And although you say that opposing views cannot both be correct, we actually have no hard evidence that either is wrong. (so far, that is)
I happen to disagree with Coupon Mad on this point, but respect her right to give advice as she sees it.
There is no "absolute correct" view on this and all we can do is offer our own personal views. If C-M cares to change the advice, then it could help, or you could add a post yourself summarising the alternative view.0 -
I have asked CM several times to justify her advice on this matter but she has so far failed to do so. As far as I can see, the case for appealing is overwhelming. You never know how far you can go until you go too far.0

The full explanation to us for newbies being given that advice is here:

I say that because I have experience of IAS appeals and IMHO they are pointless. ...and will scare people into paying.....0 -
Thank you Quentin I had not seen that.
I disagree strongly with CM, I have stated my reasons several times here, and think that, like her "drops hands offer", and "cancelling the contract" she is just adding more layers of unnecessary complication to an already complicated process.
What could be simpler than telling everyone to appeal to the I.A.S and use the their rejection as "get out of jail" card.

I disagree strongly with CM, I have stated my reasons several times here,........
But she was pretty clear when explaining this in the post you have been reading:Coupon-mad wrote: »...I have little time and won't be swayed on my advice about not using the IAS....
And it is stated in her newbies FAQ on the subject that she will let us know if the situation changes:Coupon-mad wrote: ».....Please don't start a new thread asking if this advice is still up to date - yes it is - I will change it if things change!....0 -
Well according to the poll here : https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5311944
It's currently 12:1 against the current advice. I've yet to see a compelling argument to ignore the IAS.0 -
Setting up a poll to get the Board Authority of the FAQ to change her view when she has stated her reasons isn't the way forward.
You should have challenged at the time.
Now we cannot say to newbies don't start asking any questions till you have read the newbies FAQ when it is publicly in dispute as to whether or not it is authoritative.0 -
For the advice to always up to date, then changing it should be discussed at any time members feel it is out of date.
I'm pretty sure the same debate happened before, anyway.0 -

Why not if she is wrong.
You should have challenged at the time.
Why?
Now we cannot say to newbies don't start asking any questions till you have read the newbies FAQ when it is publicly in dispute as to whether or not it is authoritative.
Why Not?
Whilst CM may know her subject like the back of her hand, she does have hold a monopoly on common sense, a few of her suggestions are just plain silly. You never know how far you can go until you go too far.0
