Thank you all, well we decided to hand in our notice after receiving a message bank have agreed to release the funds the LISA accounts all ok so we cant see any reason why this would be delayed proposed completion 16th Nov especially as we wont be relying on a removals firm.

My landlords only reply was he would update the agency - he moved away from them a year or two after I moved in so he only gets them involved to resign a lease. I don't envisage a problem if the property will be sitting empty. So the rent money wont be touched so we will have it ready if we do need to extend or look at emergency plans elsewhere - fingers crossed all will go to plan

Productive day, we have moved the kitchen around back to the original way it was, removed our dishwasher to make this happen - going to be fun reverting to hand washing for a while! It will be actually be for a long time as there isn't plumbing or space for a dishwasher in the kitchen so it will wait until we have the money to do the full kitchen.

All shelves and hooks removed holes filled over will be painted tomorrow. Couple of boxes packed mostly ornaments and a few bits from our under stair cupboard which is now temporarily housing the dish washer and some finished boxes.

Payday next week very little spends expected pre move, we can finally getting started instead on our savings pots, 3 planned: Emergency, IVF and home improvements. Emergency will keep rolling, IVF aiming for 18 months. Home improvements I guess will be a forever depleting pot in the sense we will aim to do something finish it and start again. It'll take around 6 years in my very rough calculations to do everything we want to do, but I have no doubt in the next 6 years as things change our priorities will too. I remember my dad had similar goal timescales to do up the run down house - it ended up taking over ten years as things changed over the years so its absolutely a flexible goal, as long as everything functions, we are warm and dry I cant really ask for anything else.

    Exciting times :)

  • Remember reading your diary many years ago and your hope that one day you would be able to buy your own home. Delighted that you are finally doing it. As you say it doesn't matter how long it takes to make the changes you want if it is going to be your forever home. I can sense how excited you are and I hope everything goes smoothly in the lead up to your move. Well done for keeping focused all this time.

Reading the news, seeing talk of another lockdown I am hoping we can still exchange and complete on time. I don't recall what happened with house purchases last time.

We've paid our deposit for cooker and carpet cleans - tenancy requirements. They said the last lock down didn't stop their services so I do hope there wont be any issues.

Loft has been emptied, more packed. Next weekend we plan to take the wardrobes down and paint areas that need refreshing. Will leave some paint for the next tenants - it was a mission to find the matching kitchen paint although we eventually did, as for the living room I just couldn't match it up so we had to completely repaint.

Payday has been, big bills out and savings in. Leaving not very much to get through the month but enough.

Clockwatching now, waiting for the next announcement!!

Well here we are  due to exchange in 5 days!!
The weeks have flown in all honesty, I haven't minded the quiet side of waiting as I found the beginning part of the purchase so stressful...but I do expect this week to drag a little!
The house is a state, boxes in every corner, wardrobes taken down just the minimal things left unpacked to get through the week.
A little bugbear, we gave out internet provider 5 weeks notice of move, they said if we need to move the connection date sooner to get in touch - I did and was told it would be done....just received an email advising the date remains unchanged.
Luckily I won't be working as I've taken the full week off, and hopefully we will be too busy settling in to notice the absence of netflix in the evenings.

Hopefully my next update when the house is officially ours :)

Not an update I was expecting, exchange didnt go ahead yesterday and our solicitors wouldn't pick up their phones and when replying to our emails started Monday will be simultaneous exchange and completion.

It wasn't what we had agreed to who made the change and why is completely unknown, the solicitor's have avoided the question altogether as in answered every question barring that. They have the full mortgage, deposit and final bill paid. Its almost as thought it was forgotten what they had arranged!
I read later that is not unusual for exchange date to move but there is usually a reason, if we and the seller have no reason its just baffling. A little worrying too, I dont expect it to fall through as its a vacant inherited property but I would have felt much better packing this weekend with a contract in place.

We have collected a larger van borrowed from friends DH also has a smaller van that can be used for smaller things, going to start filling them tomorrow with the heaviest things in the hope there are no nasty surprises monday.....

  • Oh dear, sorry to hear that Bellevie.  I hope you get some better answers on Monday.  Very rude of your solicitors to do that without informing you and discussing it.
Fingers crossed the rest goes smoothly for you!
