Preparing for the biggest move of our life

Heard back from the university today they are sticking to the point. They did helpfully list other things I could do - it looks like picking a new Alevel subject would be acceptable and will be cheaper than Access to HE - although they do prefer Access to HE it is not the most affordable option. Still I do want to be as prepared as I can be when I eventually start so I will take time to consider options I found an online version which is cheaper than courses I'd seen locally. Employers will also look at level 3 options that they can fund I guess then its weighing it all up.
I am quite tired with everything going on, after my employers being pretty certain I had a place on the course its knocked my confidence a little not to even be considered for interview on the basis of the age of my qualifications so I am thinking get through the house move and Christmas before I take on anything else.MFW

I had news today that the university have reviewed their decision and offered an interview!!!
Something I was not expecting at all, it came as such a shock.
Still no guarantees but at least maybe a chance... Fingers crossed 🤞MFW

Glad to hear it, I hope someone reviewed the situation and queried their logic! Best of luck.

I am hopeful for a good interview and soon too, it would be good to be able to stop worrying about this!

Our half of the deposit has been transferred to solicitors, Skipton have received solicitor declaration but strangely not our investor declarations which the solicitor says was sent at the same time. We reprinted and posted this morning.
When I called I checked if the requested date of withdrawal being DH's anniversary with them would delay the release of funds, they replied no they will be in the solicitors account usually within 2-4 hours at times though it can role over to the next day. So the exchange date I expect will be the friday or monday - solicitors had suggested same day completion although I am hopefull I am not convinced it will work that way.
Still we have booked the full week off so we can move without the pressures of work hopefully wrap up an return rental within that week too.
DH toyed with the idea of keeping rental an extra month as we will be getting on with sorting electrics as soon as we get the keys, in the past I probably would have agreed but I cannot face the idea of double bills, rent and mortgage - especially as that would clear away the small savings we will be starting off with- I really want built these up as quickly as possible so we have funds to keep ticking over in the event of another lock down.
Very strange time to be moving but hopefully it will all work outMFW

I see where your DH is coming from but I'd be agreeing with you. Double rent and bills vs being uncomfortable with the lack of electrics for a few weeks wouldn't be enough of a reason to spend the extra moneyBottom line;

After my last post we are thinking we might be in a position where we do have to overlap our house with the rental, with exchange not being confirmed till funds are in looking anywhere between 11th-16th November then the possibility of sellers not being ready for a quick completion or another lock down its just adding to the stress not knowing if we will make it out in time with tenancy renewing around a week after we would exchange.
Its a bit gutting to be honest all that money planned to make a start on a new house to keep this one on 'just in case' but we don't have a back up, if we hand in our notice now and don't exchange and complete in time we don't have local family we could stay with so it really wont work any other way. I've stress tested our spreadsheet, thankfully because we have been saving hard we can do it, it just feels like money down the drain.
The alternative however if things went wrong and we had to be out, dogs would need kennels we would need storage and a hotel it could prove equally as expensive as paying for another month. Now that its in my spreadsheet, I'm adjusting to the look of our balance post move, will stop feeling grumpy about it soon enough!
We've had a constructive weekend, change the living room around to allow space for packed boxes, I have wrapped and boxed DD's birthday and christmas presents (well the ones I have so fa) so they wont be hard to find post move.
We managed to get some boxes from someone who has just move also purchased a moving set to be sure we have enough, there isnt a huge amount we want boxed right now as it will just get in the way were as most things are neatly in their places - but we have been through a ruthless clear out giving away and throwing things we couldnt recycle in any way. Im sure there will still be a few other things but on the whole it doesnt feel like things will be a nightmare to pack.....I hope Im not eating my words in a few weeks.
My goodness.....a few weeks!!!!MFW

Hi there, just delurking to say why don't you ask advice on the housing board. My understanding is that even if you give notice now, you don't 'have' to move out when the notice expires. If it came to it, your landlord would have to go through a legal process which would take many months or, because of Covid, possibly even years.
Hopefully all would work out in the right timeframe, but it would allow you a bit of leeway if timings slipped.
Just a thought, but like I say do ask on the housing board, there are some really helpful and knowledgeable people on there and I could be wrong!3 -
As @still_hopeful said, you could always be totally upfront and go to your landlord with "We're intending to move out on X date but obviously if stuff goes belly up then we'll extend by another week and pay you the additional rent accordingly."
I doubt any landlord would turn down an extra week or two of rent given there isn't a guarantee that they will get new tenants in straight away.Bottom line;

I also agree worth discussing with your landlord. Most of them won't have someone ready to move in straightaway, especially now, and if you're leaving the place in a good condition and agree to new tenants viewing then there doesn't seem much of a downside to them. Besides, I thought a standard shorthold tenancy automatically defaults to a monthly rolling contract when it expires?RB xxDebt free May 2016... DFW#2 in progress
